london strikes

just a quick one why is it london are out but not the BR staff are you striking for something they dont beleve in?????????

By BR I take it you meant Bromley - they are probably part of Kent Invicta Branch and therefore would not have been involved in a local London Ballot as they are outside that Division. However as we are being balloted soon in a UK wide vote I am sure we will all be out soon.

The Kent Invicta Branch represent Postal members in the ME and CT Postcode areas. The Branch has around 2500 members, this is made up of Royal Mail, Quadrant, Romec, Parcelforce, Counters and Logistics employees.

i'll take your word for it postman. does seem strange though that we're out but bromley and welling are all working.

I am affaid that they didt ballot for strike action, only London as a divison balloted for strike action. Bromley , Croydon , Dartford , Sutton , Kingston , Richmond, Watford , Enfield , Romford whilst they are all in the Greater London area they do not form part of the London Divison committee as they are not in the London postcode area.

well our office has been 100% rock sold behind the strike. everyone seem's to know what we're fighting for and what will happen if we don't fight.

I cannot talk about LONDON but if anyone who works for royalmail or indeed receives a service from royalmail this is not a LONDON issue but a strategy by royalmail that has been in plan for many years and LONDON was the last piece in their plan of total destruction of the UK postal service!. It is a plan of reduced service by the cutting of thousands of jobs and consequent reduction of service if you think the strikes are bad royalmail's new plan will reduce the postal service to worse than NOW it is time the real customers of royalmail (Every household and business of this nation) DEMAND A FIRST CLASS SERVICE and not just the top 100 companies of this nation that get one!.

K979 I dont agree that London is the final piece of the jigsaw, I think London was the first. Royal Mail believed that if they destroyed the union in London then they could do so everywhere. Once they had done this they would have implemented their change agenda which is far worse then anything which has been introduce before.

This would include no earnings , total fexibility, removal of full time jobs , longer saturdays lifting the cap on door to door without extra payment, end of shift allowance , later starts and later finishes , longer delivery spans, new perfomance procedures , teamworking covering all sick and annual leave within duty time more than the current 1 in 10 absorbition.

On top of this a massive reduction in mail centres , removal of weekend duties in mail centres , moving to one collection per day , closures of hubs,

Movement to monthly pay, further cuts to pensions, no more pay rises , changes to allowances and the PBS supplement , the end to the christmas bonus,Plus complusory transfers and redundancies.

In short they wanted to destroy the cwu so they would have a free run to attack terms and conditions.

Their mistake was they misjudged our strength and that of Plymouth , Bristol , stoke , Glasgow , Edinburgh , Norwich , Peterbough and all the other areas who have fought back so far. In London we are now on day 12 of strike action and management cannot believe we are still prepared to keep fighting . We are getting stronger they are getting weaker and we will win.

Take a look up north 6 mail centers closed or near to closed and all of the above of near to implimentation and this is just one area of royalmail THE CWU should have put up more of fight 18 months ago!. But we will still fight the fight which must be fought!.
