RM~CWU talks

Post by Cut Off King »

So RM and the CWU are talking again

Well here's MY rant and take on the situation,

WE need to press home the advantage NOW not give up to another CRAP wishy-washy agreement that's going to be read one way by the CWU and another way by RM.

RM are SH*TTING themself's now that local IA is having an effect and the backlog is building up ( why else would they be willing to talk before the result of a national ballot has been anounced )

They are looking to get a quick agreement with CWU leadership that will allow them to KEEP most of the UNAGREED CUTS / savings in the offices that have had Exec.Action imposed upon them.

We need a CLEAR, BACK & WHITE no grey area's agreement !

We NEED to see ALL Exec Action completely REMOVED FIRST ! before we back down

LETS NOT lose more HOURS / JOBS from in your DO / MC etc.

We need a FAIR SHARE of any monies due for BONUS PAYMENTS - NOT just for MANAGERS or PHONY SHARES

VOTE YES and if necessary STOP OUT until we get a FAIR settlement and if needed HOURS BACK IN !

VOYE YES and make a difference !

The ballot papers don't even go out until Sept 16th, so they must be spooked.

Unless of course, RM's idea of 'talks' is to march in to the meeting, re-state their previous position, and march out to the tune of McFadden & Whitehead's greatest hit.
(Younger viewers may need to google that last bit)

More and more, I'm starting to think this is becoming a game of brinkmanship between RM and the CWU.

Are RM prepared to dig their heels in this time, perhaps with the unspoken approval / blessing of Mandelson, knowing that public opposition to a sell-off of RM will dwindle if strikes continue up to Christmas and beyond ??

Are the CWU totally confident of getting an overwhelming Yes vote in a national ballot ? Failure to get exactly that will surely mean RM will just race ahead with more change implemented by executive action.

Meanwhile, members are losing money every week. Some have been out on nine separate occasions already so far this year, and must feel like peace-keeping troops who end up being shot at by both sides

*** Lord hawhaw MANDELSON is spooked - He thought that with the economic problems, Posties would fold quickly and his tory dream of privatisation would be realised.
Instead ( dispite the CWU leadership ) Locally Posties have show'n that they have a spine and that enough is enough!

This is why RM ( and i suspect at Lord mandelsons instuction ) wants a settlement BEFORE the Labour party confrence

He knows that he is NOT popular within the party ( now there's an understatement ) so he wants it all swept under the carpet sooner rather than later.

He knows that the knives will be out at confrence time / seating of parlament.

LM say's---The ruse is up.....settle know before it all blows up in my face

I think it's about bloody time they started talking again! Yes, there's brinkmanship going on. It's the way the Fat Cats operate. But I strongly believe that MEANINGFUL (as opposed to what's been happening up to now) negotiations are the best chance for getting a good outcome. But that is no reason to back down over the Ballot.

I'm not sure what the timescale is. But it is possible to delay the first National Strike (assuming we get a yes), without invalidating the Ballot. So they could get some time there, without jeapordising our efforts, if the talks fail. :hmmmm

the union should be concentrating on getting a strong yes vote , not sowing seeds of doubt by putting out these wishy washy updates on negotiations. the attacks and intimidation continue , you only have to read the stories on RMC. the line in the sand should have been drawn months ago by the union and it is only the actions of the workers and local reps [ especially in areas such as london and scotland and others] that have taken the fight back to RM. these people should be applauded but as usual the union hierarchy are one step behind.

totally agree with cut off king my fear is that the CWU will be drawn in to some sort of agreement so that RM can get through the xmas period and then start on us again in january,it will be a very long time ,and possibly not at all that i will ever regain trust in RM especially after the way in which they are currently treating us.speaking from the front line the first thing i would like to see gone is lapsing of dutys unworkable loads put upon us,which is affecting our well being.we also need a pay rise,my list can go on and on .you only get the best out of a work force if they are happy and content at their job, and currently we are not.

So if RM reverse all this EA where do we stand?

Our office has taken on lapsing, 4 days a week. If I cant do it i cut off. Been threatened enough by managers so put in a grievance.

Will this lapsing go ? Been told its for ever not just till xmas. There is too much pressure and sadly half my colleagues are pussies who come in early rather than confront. There are not many " diehards" left at my office willing to stick their neck on the line. Under 10 now id say. Im whiter than white and I told my DIM DOM he cant touch me. Prick

Karl Marx once observed that by means of Bourgeois Democracy the ruling class establishes an executive committee drawn from its own ranks that ruled in the interest of private property. During “normal” times the flow of politics passes by without provoking much interest, but from time to time; particularly in times of acute economic and political crisis, the class nature of society is made absolutely clear.

Phase 3 is very clear in that absorption is not limited to any paticular time of year. Phase 2 deals with the traditional summer lull and how we resource during that period.

Phase 3 is also very clear in that outdoor and/or indoor is to take place within duty hours/scheduled hours of attendance, phase 3 DOES NOT SAY outdoor work is limited to the 3.5 hour span, not even the slightest little hint!!!

That is the problem as CWU expect 3.5 hours to be honoured but phase 3 suggests outdoor absorption is within duty time not delivery time. The 3.5 hour span is not mentioned in phase 3, why? :arrrghhh

• To jointly identify/implement genuine opportunities to absorb outdoor and/or indoor workload where time exists within approved attendance times/normal paid work hours.
• To provide sensible options for the business to take advantage of opportunities to increase efficiency when workload declines, or there are absences.

It is the lack of understanding of the words jointly genuine and sensible from Royal Mail along with mbrs being leed to belive absoption was summer only which is complete nonsense and just a mangerial tatic to get you absorbing with the most minium of fuss possible, that causes the problems.
