floater kicked off walk because duty holder working day off

Been in rm 9 years now ,im a floater covering 5 duties.In our office there lots of bullying harrasment,stress also the workload is unbearable now due to too much cut backs more part time jobs etc.My problem is ,once or twice a week i get kicked off my floating duty im supossed to be on(and signed for),because the management asks the duty holder to come in on his day off!!!! Management say oh,they wont work there day off if they dont do there own walk ! So i get moved even though thts my walk for the day.They should be told if you want overtime you will not be doing youre own walk.Its happening all over our office half the office are coming in on there day off ,getting really fed up and depressed with things now. What if i went to my job for that day and said look im not moving from the walk im supossed to be doing and made a stand????? What can they do,and is thereanyone higher i can go about this???? A few reples would be great!

Happens at mine all the time, we are so short staffed now and most weeks they rely on people to work their day off. Funny thing is they dont mind kicking senior posties off their own walks for absorbtion purposes.

I'd be careful about refusing to move in the current climate (it could end up with you being taken off pay for refusing a resonable request) but do put in a greivence and be prepared to fight it through to the end.

Not that tricky Spodoo,just tell them to do one You are a duty holder ,just enquire how many times other permanent duty holders have been required to forgoe their duty to enable folks to work their chosen duty on their day off. Or say fair do's next week I want to work my day off and ,this is the duty I want to do(PS pick the mouthiest scabiest gits walk )In other words ,the world is your oyster and your manager does not have a leg to stand on;Discrimination pure and simple ,a cast iron grievance . You challenge and they will melt away Try it ,it works every time

The fact that other posties are doing this to other posties makes me cringe,what a bunch of scumbags we work with.

That happened to me for a while but I went round each one of my group that I float for and said that if they are going to work their day off and do their duty then I will do the same. I will do the duty of whichever one works their day off and they will then be punted to another duty. If the manager refuses to allow you to do this then that opens up the grievance side of things since he is allowing others to pick and choose.Now what happens is that the duty holder asks me if they can work their day off and do their duty.

Im glad to say this does not happen at our office and should NOT happen anywhere.Thats your duty,if these guys want to work there day off then they should be prepared to pick up whats going with out knocking off duty holders,its as simple as that.As suggested speak to your local rep,if no luck there get on to your area rep,good luck.

I take it your a rest-day cover duty-holder. If that's the case then NO you can't be knocked of YOUR duty if the other person come's in on his rest day. Stand your ground and tell them you are doing YOUR duty for that day.

Health and Safety must not be overlooked the floater and the day off person on overtime should be on a duty they are fully trained for.

That is what we should be ensuring.

Unfortunately they can. Its called operational needs and managers use it all the time. It happens in our office all the time, they will ask the usual person to work there day off and move the cover person for that day. Afraid under the way forward agreement shite they can get away with it.

i'm a floater and if my duty holder wants to work his day off i just tell him/her to find out what duty they are being offered,then if i know it or it works out better for me then i swap,also ask them to throw some in for me as all duties i cover are full time,if i don't know the duty then it's tough titty-- i stay on duty i am covering

Yep same in my office, if the day off cover don't want to move, you do another duty, same if you want to swap days off , you need to get the agreement of the person you are sapping with and the day off cover, not really a problem for me as i don't do day off working. Although we want to change over to a week off every 6 but can't as the day off cover dont want to change.

Not in our office they can't. The person who's walk it is is on a day off and if he want's to do that walk then the rest-day cover must agree.

Well they tried that one in our office once the union told the DOM, it cant be done without day off covers agreement, so the normal duty holder came in on another duty. Apperently on that day it's the day off covers duty, they need to agree. We've nearly had riots over this.
