suffer from a bad knee currently in process of having it looked at. It may be ligament and cartilege.
My back / shoulders always or 80% of the time ache
Posture terrible
Neck pains caused by all of the above and how I " hold " myself
Been with RM 6 years
Its not down to anything else, used to play golf as a kid, no issues, bit of footy, no issues
RM has been a downward spiral. I need to get my body sorted out
Im a fit and afaik healthy young man but rm has took its toll. Can see myself dong indoor work within 10 years

Re: ailments caused by being a postie
For the first 15 or 16 years I worked in my MC I was sorting most of the time.
And apart from the basic 43 hours as it was when I started, I usually worked
4 hours OT each day Mon-Fri, 5 hours OT on Saturday, and 6 hours on Sunday.
Eventually I developed 'tennis elbow' in my right elbow, which made it painful
to sort. I didn't have time off sick for it, and it got better after I eventually
got a duty that didn't involve sorting for most of the day (and stopped doing
so much OT).

Since being back at RM (6 years) I've broken my arm, been bitten, had carpal tunnel syndrome, had a blood transfusion, suffered with depression, fallen over and injured my leg in -9c ice/snow conditions (ongoing treatment) and been bitten again! This job is bad for your health!!
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Re: ailments caused by being a postie
Yes! I get sore feet, pain in my knees, trapped nerves , back ache and pain in my joints some weeks I feel alright and then another week I feel really bad some mornings when I get out of bed I can hardly walk and I am really weak. My duty entails me standing all day accept for when I have my breaks. My doctor told me that standing all day is not good for you and I think that eventually RM are going to get alot of people taking ill-health retirement because there is hardly any sorting jobs left within the mail centres it is mainly tipping, FSM, LSM duties which involve alot of bending, lifting and pushing A frames that are really hard to push because they have not been maintained this is really bad for your back but do RM care?

Was it a manager that bit you or a dog.Stormproof wrote:Since being back at RM (6 years) I've broken my arm, been bitten, had carpal tunnel syndrome, had a blood transfusion, suffered with depression, fallen over and injured my leg in -9c ice/snow conditions (ongoing treatment) and been bitten again! You can see now why the long term plans of the Royal Mail are to take the load off our backs and shoulders.wanchope123 wrote:im 30

I would bet there is a secret hidden report somewhere in Royal Mail entitled
"TOP SECRET"
"The long term medical problems of full time and permanent delivery staff"
Conclusions: "we cannot afford to have an increased workrate and delivery capacity without serious long term and costly medical problems developing. As a short term solution the introduction of high capacity golf carts and prams will enable us delay any major medical insurance claims. Longer term our plans to move over to a part time workforce, with a high staff turnover rate, will shield us from any damaging litagation. Staff will either never be in the job long enough to develop problems, or be kept on long enough to become a problem"
Not for general distribution - highest security level (Level 3)

Re: ailments caused by being a postie
i have personally suffered/suffer from, sore ankle after falling down a man hole (not the rude kind and its no laughing matter
) it was 4 foot deep and filled with sleet and snow at the time! erm sore neck from a large wooden brush falling from the roof covering the loading bay which men were working on, varicose veins from standing all day, sore knees again from standing, had a bad bout of depression a couple of years back brought on by work due the lack of manager giving a f*ck, sore hands/wrist from repetitive work, really the list goes on and on.........oh and exhusation sometimes to

Re: ailments caused by being a postie
22 years do feel run down a bit, with all this walking for too long, been bitten once, no major drama but then I have never put myself out for RM, I know how carnig and grateful they can be, so I tailor my effort accordingly.
