I agree. I bought up with manager too that lapsing duties as we are in our office equals more leave for us , as we lapse 4 duties at present it should equal 4 more holiday spaces. He disagreed. prick.

But those attitudes are caused by a bullying, uncaring management, it's really not that difficult to give someone a single day off but they don't because that would mean using their brains a bit too much (BTW all leave has to taken at sometime so it makes no difference to their budgets).

 Ifi t's anything like our office--a few people ALWAYS seem to get extra time of for special days-- most others don't,and that's what causes the problems.

It makes a difference to the budget if all the leave slots have been taken on that day, meaning overtime is needed to pay someone to cover you and not a reserve, unless the delivery is lapsed that is.

Surely the simplest thing to do would be to book the leading out day as a day's leave when you book the time off. You say you need 2 weeks and 1 day.
I've never heard of them before this, I book my holidays in advance and work around the dates I have chosen. Strangely I'm with RM on this one simply because, what is to stop someone from booking 2 weeks leave and then demanding an extra day, probably at short notice. We work for RM and unfortunately we are not that important to them, we constantly harp on about the 'bad' things they do, and rightly so, but here we are demanding what Crozier would call Spanish Practices.
I can only go on how things are in my office and we book our holidays from October for the following year, so there is plenty of time for you to book a holiday within the dates you choose.

So far (admittedly I'm indoor) I've always been able to book 2 weeks and 1 day. Although it's harder to book just 1 day on it's own. If it's in a continuous block, they're taking the p**s, by refusing it IMHO.
