Im putting in a grievance - please help

Post by mandelsons_toenail »

Regarding the fact the I dont get long wekends, ever.

I've approached manager in the past and get the runaround,

The final straw has came since new starters on 20 hour contracts all have now been given their own rounds ( delivery only ) and nice cushty regular days off in line with " their" duty

Its pissed me off no end, I maybe get 2 saturdays off a year , cant remember the last " long weekend" id like to have it regular or at least my share ( 8? ) a year like everyone else gets who isnt spare etc.

I dont see my child much and this would help as I could have her regular, take her to school etc etc

I have the form in front of me. Any help appreciated :wave

If we take our days off in rota, we get a Sat Sun Mon once in six weeks.

As a part timer i have to work six days to get a decent wage packet, I haven't had a rostered day off in 12 weeks

Speak with your union rep .. the Pay & Mod Agmt states that everyone should be treated equally and fairly, and individual circumstances taken into account. If your LM/DOM still refuse to budge then put in a grievance against them.

I think, not sure though, RM or any other firm for that matter, are liable to give you 2 days off per week.

Those 2 days are days which are available on which duty you're on, if its not a Saturday or a Monday then thats just unlucky I suppose, but I'm sure thats what they'll say, as long as you get those 2 days (obviously one is a Sunday) then there is little you can do.

When you put it in state what your agrieved about in short points, dont waffle, explain that you dont have regular long weekends and that the full time staff do and now staff that have been employed after you now have a regular weekend off,you could also remind them that you understand that you should be given the same chances as the full or part time staff, all staff should be treated the same also you should explain that you have responsibilitys as a father with an explanation about being able to have your daughter on a regular basis which is in line with RM's family friendly policy.

The out come you would like is to be able to have a regular weekend off like all other staff with duties and not to be treated diffrently from others.

The art is to build a case with dates and times also make sure that you keep a copy so you have proof of sending a grievance, also if you are a union member try to get some help/guidence from them thats what they are there for.

Surely that's what managers are there to do? MANAGE! I'm lucky enough to have my own floating duty and an alternating day off every week. However I see reserves in my office who have been there maybe 5 years get the Wednesday off, then the following week the Thursday then the Friday the next week....then it comes to the long weekend and they're moved. Someone who is only in the door moved a few months moved onto it and a usually a nice long weekend for them. Hardly fair, eh? About time managers started to manage and treating people with the respect they deserve. To say it would be a nightmare for them to organise is a fair comment.....but it it ain't our problem and that's why managers get managers wages......to manage the office!

I do know what your saying mate. Some reserves really are treated like s**t though. As per usual though the managers have their own favourite reserves who are looked after then you have the rest who absolutely s**t on week in, week out, day in, day out. I just think the more hassle managers get from the staff about whatever is p*ssing them off the better. Each and everyone of us posties is being treated like a slave so I think it is indeed only fair to make the managers work for their wages and bonuses. The more earache they get the better.

Spot the brats :cfo :mfo ???? Anyone? Ha! Thought I'd forgot about you, eh :lfo ?? Your the biggest knob ever!

Be prepared for it to be rejected virtually out of hand, any system that has managers investigating other managers will always be corrupt  but saying that, the more of them we put in the more annoyed they become having to 'investigate' them :nervous

I've said this a million times maybe i should put a stickie somewhere!

Look it's not hard and it aint rocket science,it's a system we use at our place when needs be.And f**k the managers doing it nominate someone to do it.

You get a list of the reserves in seniorty order and make a kind of chart.
Then each week when duties come up you go down the list.
After a while you will start to see a pattern.Who has had what days off and who hasn't.

Then you can see who has not had a L/W or Sat off and allocate the duties as required.

All reserves have to agree with the system,it's only fair and at the end of the day they are each entitled to a L/W or Sat off in 6ish weeks so there is no way they can not agree anyway.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I have been spare the last 3 months or so, haven't had a long weekend since April.

I used to get five day long weekends, every 3 weeks! Now for the same pay I have to come in 5 days instead of 4 and get pressured to take out full time rounds/4 hour deliveries and I haven't seen a long weekend either because as soon as my day off is due to be saturday, they put me on a different job.

So in other words, I know the feeling.
