Stage 1 warning
I understand that the 'Attendance Procedure' states that "Accidents which happen in the course of Royal Mail work would normally be discounted" but does this usually happen or not ?

Re: Stage 1 warning
Anyone who gets issued a stage and part of the sickness(or all) was due to an AOD, should take a grievance out against the manager who issued it, as has been said all AOD should normally be discounted, when you take out the grievance they will have to answer why they have gone against RM policy, then if your not to blame for the AOD, you've got a good chance of getting it overturned.

Also report it to the Social as a Industrial Injury - makes it harder for RM to close ranksrockytony67 wrote:Anyone who gets issued a stage and part of the sickness(or all) was due to an AOD, should take a grievance out against the manager who issued it, as has been said all AOD should normally be discounted, when you take out the grievance they will have to answer why they have gone against RM policy, then if your not to blame for the AOD, you've got a good chance of getting it overturned.

Don't be silly. They can do whatever they like... at least, that's what they think.woofwoof wrote: they carnt reverse a stage 1 issued
You cannot appeal a Stage 1 or a Stage 2. Doesn't mean RM won't remove it if you take out a grievance against the manager that's trying to pull a fast one

The tribunal found the agreement with the trade union did not provide management with discretion to decide about absences caused by accidents at work.
The agreement said such absences must normally be discounted.
A manager could not start from the position that the agreement conferred a wide discretion upon him.
Employment judge Hugh Murphy added: “No evidence was laid before us to suggest that the circumstances in this case are exceptional or any way unusual.
“Indeed, as we understood Mr Cassidy, he accepted that most accidents involving postmen involve slipping or tripping, and that it is almost always possible to blame the employee at least in part for any accident on the basis that he ought to have watched where he was placing his foot, ought to have avoided the substance likely to cause him to slip, or the obstruction that caused him to trip and fall, and ought to have worn footwear that was less worn and slippery.”
