Do the walk sorting machines make any difference? Do they speed your prep up?

They will because all the mail (in theory) would be in the order the fitting runs, from bottom left to top right.

I've heard they save around 10 to 20 minutes. You still need to throw it all in, and let's be honest once you know a frame even if it is all running we all know the 10 to 20 min's is about right. So to me it seem's like a waste of time becouse that 10 or 20 min's is not really saved it's just being used somewhere else in the firm. If they really think that by saving a max of 20 min's a day on prep time we're going to have time to do an extra walk between 2 or 3 of us they're dreaming. Where I am more people then ever now cut off and leave work in the pouch boxes then ever before and this is the "quite" part of the year.

As a part timer they will save me no time whatsoever. So unless they reduce my duty I will still cut off or do OT

The only thing walk sorting machines do is allows RM to get rid of more staff and use it as an excuse to justify its actions
The office i'm in has it and we spend more time on IPS with fewer staff manually doing the trays of mail the machines cant cope with.Plus the flats and packets are still being done as well.So we dont save time,you still have to put the mail in the frames.An experienced postman on his round can run his route in just as fast,the only reason for having it walksorting is for reserve staff that can be put on a route that they are unfamilier with.Thats probably why the RM want these machines,less staff and the ability to move the workforce around on different routes!
The machines are struggling with the volume's of mail we're getting in the summer period so god knows what it will be like come xmas time !!

so why are all the trialist of the w,s machines saying max ten mins savings then who's right ? seems your leaning to r,m quotes about the savings

We've been told it will cut prep time in half, but you will still be hanging around for manual sorting of packets and flats, so how will you get out earlier ?

I'm being cut from 28hrs to 22 in three weeks, but and heres the joke, the walk I'm taking over is a 30 hr walk, so they will green card it, and give me two hours prep a day excess !!!

The way our DOM was banging on he reckons you can prep a walk (600-700 or more drops) completely in 38 mins. Thats from empty frame to bags inc. redirections and everything.

If it saves anyone 25mins on prepping they either have never seen the frame before or they've got Parkinsons. Also ,I'd kill for a walk that you could prep and bag in 50mins, where can I get one of those.com

Does anyone else notice how sore their arm gets doing the top row of a frame when it's sequenced. If you were doing it every day it wouldn't be long before staff started suffering from repative strain injury.
