Help! Help! Advice needed for a good friend!

Hello troops and troopers.

Some advice needed with regards to a bit of a pickle a good friend has got himself into at work. We'll call him J. So I'm just off the phone with J and here's the situation.

J was asked by the assistant DOM last Saturday morning 22/08/09 if he wanted some scheduled overtime for the week commencing 24/08/09. J agreed. 3 hours a day 3pm-6pm over 5 days. So far, so good. J went into work on Monday 24/08/09 and realised his day off was Friday 28/08/09 and as that was his day off he didn't want to be coming in for 3 hours overtime. So J went in Monday morning and asked another guy (we'll call him D) would he be able to cover his 3 hours overtime on Friday 28/08/09. D agreed and said no problems. J then went into the office and told the assistant DOM that he would be doin the overtime Monday-Thursday and that D would be doin it on Friday. Assistant DOM says that's OK no problems.

So J is off today enjoying his day off when he get's a call from his girlfriend telling him that there's a parcel for him being held at our sorting office. So J makes his way to the office at about 6pm to pick up his parcel and the PHG asks why he didn't weigh in to do his overtime. J replies he got it covered by D but surprise, surprise D is indeed the one that never weighed in.

Who does the fault lie with? The collection failed, missed scans, wilful delay of mail perhaps?

I can only hope that once J had said to assistant DOM that he had got it covered on Friday by D that the assistant DOM got this confirmed by D. If the worse comes to the worse and the assistant DOM has only took J's word that he had got it covered could this all come back on him?

Any help or advice ASAP is very much appreciated.

dont worry about it he told the dom the other guy as doing it so it was down to the dom on the day to check with the other guy

This is all true. The other thing is its down to ass DOM to confirm o/t. He should immediately have been called by whoever was in charge asking where J was. In turn he would have told them that D was covering today. If D Hadn t turned up the ass DOM or manager in charge of late turn collections should have phoned D to see where he was.

No problems as far as i can see. In fact J was spot on getting it covered. He could have just refused the O/T on the Thursday night like some of the pillocks i work with do, and screwed everyone, but he got it covered and told the ass DOM.

We have a swap book at our place and if you swap any duties you fill this out, that means that everyone knows what they are doing and that the guy who said he would cover is the one who should be in the deep stuff.

Quite right TBT we have a swap book at our D/O,
Both sign it and date it, arse covered no comebacks.
I think a verbal agreement is enough, but you cant beat it when
its there in black and white.
