Firstly would like to say i do not work for RM. Im just livid as to how staff are treated at the moment and the sheer greed shown by management. I contacted my local MP firstly with the standard letter asking him to oppose the privatisation, when i met with him i went into more specific detail about what goes on at my local RM branch. We discussed what is happening higher up,but also the way branch managers are dealing with staff. He supports our local branch, visits there on occasions and also has written pieces for the local paper. With a campaign like this,public support is needed also. I suggest that where you can, contact the MP responsible for the branch you work in. List is specific detail of unfair treatment what is happening in just your branch. Get them to show their support for the employees and get them to speak out on your behalf. So that your local public understand more what is happening in their areas. Most of the public still arent even aware that you are not to start your round until 9/10am, which is why they get confused when they still havent had post by 1pm! If you can get your MP on board maybe they could speak via the local paper and let the local people get an insight. Sorry if i am rambling, but it is just a thought? xx

what has treason got to do with people speaking about what is happening within a working enviornment? Was treason committed when the Telegraph listed MPs expenses. How can you compare this to overthrowing a government etc? I dont really understand your point? Is there one?

I suggest that bullying and intimidation to get your own way also be deemed an offence against your basic working rights. High Treason my foot. If they are facts, they are not even slander.....postpeople are required. Managers for managers for managers for directors and CEOs are what need to be cut mate!

this is far better than people falling for the RM propaganda line - i.e. they're lazy , dinosaurs OR the saloon bar ranter i.e. sack the lot of them , privatize them , I'd ban unions etc , etc - Nice to see people seeing the bigger picture and not swallowing all that rubbish in The Sun , Express & Mail .

I'm not sure RM would appreciate letters to local rags , staff have noticed " identikit " letters being published from Senior & Area Managers as a "spontaneous" response to letters from postmen and allegedly witch-hunts have been threatened .

RM have hidden behind the Official Secrets Act for a long time and have a lot of expensive PR staff .

The problem is that a lot of jobbing New Labour MP's are very loyal and don't intend to be always on the backbenches , that's machine politics for you .

Not sure what the treason bit is about unless it's irony or scarcasm about RM which is understandable ! or a " Common Purpose " and /or a Pro RM or New Labour troll .

I think they misunderstood what i was saying. Im not saying make public directly in newspapers etc. I meant to meet with your local MP to discuss what is happening within their constituancy - that is part of their job, and to explain why you are on strike. MPs usually write for the local papers and they can then go on to write their support and make the case for BOTH sides. The MP will know if they are committing treason or not. But basically it is very unfair of the highly paid people within RM and certain MPs to be misleading the public over certain matters.
Also, is it not true that RM received £1+ billion for new machines and as of yet they are nowhere to be seen as promised? Then as a taxpayer do i not have a right to ask where my money went? Treason my foot

I'd love my MP to come to work with me from the start of my shift to the very last minute, that would get the point across very well I think But we know that'll never happen

You never know!!!! imagine the look of the local branch manager when my MP turns up with bottles of champagne for postal staff!! You should do a film diary, things like that do get shown

It's a good point about MP's as there are people in Government that use Senior RM managers as " hired hands " if you will , or as " at arms length " management ; and yes the DTI or the Government is the ultimate employer as RM's stakeholder .

The even bigger picture is Europe and it's directives on liberalization / deregulation but it's all about how this is all handled .

We've had few from my office email their MP, and he has contacted our manager, and talked to managers further up the chain. In fact just this week he wrote a piece in our local paper about the job and the problems we have to deal with.

Or you could have my MP the one and only Mr Jonathan Djanogly with the expensive tax payer funded gates on his property who is the Conservative Party counterpart to Pat McFadden.

I had a letter from him this week, obvisouly will not support strike action but Im getting close to having him understand and agree with some of the issues facing RML/CWU.

Will have to get it up on site with a wee bit of help from the more technical posters on site.

Michael Foster Labour MP for Hastings and Rye visited my office a few months ago and went on delivery. He public;y supported us during the 2007 strikes and continues to do so. Unfortunately, for every MP like him, there are a dozen who are more interested in having their moat cleaned or paying for their husbands porn addiction than providing the service they were elected to do.
