Didn't they do that before the 2007 dispute?
Don't know how they do this - I don't think they know my number.

Tried calling back on 01388744399 but the number won't accept incoming calls, so if it is RM maybe they won't like the responce .

The truth is out there. :mfo :mfo

Might be worth you googling that number........apparently they've been cold calling a lot of people.
http://www.avforums.com/forums/general- ... 399-a.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've had loads of missed calls from 01388 744399 and when I ring it back it doesn't accept incoming calls.
Today I was in when they rang and I answered. It was a woman with a North East accent who asked for me by name and when I asked what it was about, she said that she was calling on behalf of my local Labour Party. When I asked her why her phone number was a Bishop Auckland are code she just put the phone down on me.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

The CWU did do this before the 2007 vote on IA.It was to estimate the likely level of support.
They used an independent polling company who were able to get members telephone numbers
from directory enquiries, using their names and addresses from CWU records. As my telephone
number is ex-directory they would not be able to contact me.
But I think the CWU did write to members before they did this to tell them they might be rung.

I can understand why both sides would do it.

thing is if RM did it and got a 99% vote in favour they would still hold the line just in case

What a company we work for, no sorry slave for. It's a bad state of affairs when anything happens that we are always suspicious RM are up to something dodgy. What makes it worse is we are probably right. To answer another post can we use the words legite and RM in the same sentence.

 Well. I've just googled up the number, and someone seems to think it's an I.D Scam.

Some of our members were also contacted and someone checked with the area rep and he said it was a legitimate call from the CWU either directly or on their behalf - I have never heard of this before and it is a worrying thought that the union are looking to see how the land lies before calling a ballot and if the outcome of the straw poll appears to be negative then they may do a "strategic withdrawal" with RMs empty promises of talk.

I can see where the CWU are coming from they just want to make sure that we are strong enough to defeat RM. I suspose it's a bit like walking on ice, you would be stupid to walk staight out on to it before testing to see how thick it is. Thay don't want to fall through and drown, do they.

I can't help wondering if the CWU are really behind these calls, why are they employing an outside company to do this sort of research ? Wouldn't it be a lot better - and cheaper - to use staff at the Wimbledon HQ to make the calls ? People receiving these calls could then verify that it is definitely the CWU who's calling them because doing the '1471' thingy would show that the call originated from 0208 9717 200 (the same number as shown on the CWU website).

union phone calls

Post by col456xyz »

Yesterday members of our office were phoned by union headquaters. They were asked amongst other things how they would be voting. In 23 years of being in the union I have never heard of this before. Are the union worried about a no vote and getting feelers before the ballet or what, this action does not fill me with confidence. If a no vote is recorded and this is possible as the union is so out of touch and not trusted since SDD were do we go.
