Need to clarfiy this? Strike action related.

Post by stevepostman »

In conversation last week in work. I was told if you duty started before the industrial action. You have to finish the shift. Ie your start time is 2100hr but the strike starts at 2200 you can still work the shift.Confusing. What is the procedure?

It depends on the Notice of Industrial Action so you'll need to check with your branch committee members.

They sometimes say - Strike will commence at 2200 for all shifts commencing after that time for 24 hours (That would mean you stay for the whole shift)

or

All Shifts will commence strike action at 2200 hours for a period of 24 hours (That would mean you can join the party outside after working for 1 hour) :Very Happy

Obviously this is not the correct legal wording but it does give you an idea.

However, under the above wording, it would also mean coming back to work at 2200 the next night, an hour later than your official 2100 start time

The way it usually works, in my experience. Is that if your shift starts at 21:00, and the Strike starts at 22:00. You work your whole shift (yes I know, it's disgusting. But despite regular complaints to my Reps, and Emailing HQ directly to complain. They still insist that it's the right way to do this! :Sick ). But on a later Strike day, you'll be on Strike, while another Shift is forced to go in. :Sick

I've never come across such a major overlap though. I know that the Drivers (completely different Shift Pattern) generally overlap by half a shift. But why are you being put in a situation where the Strike starts an hour after you do?
That's ludicrous!!!!! :d'oh! :arrrghhh

it's just another outlook on Reality!
