Bullying and harrasment

would like to know what constitutes as bullying and harrasment. after being spoken to like s**t today from a line "manager" i feel so angry and sick to the stomach but not just the words, also the actions which braught on this exchange.
i was made to feel little and like a piece of s**t, and the more i go over it in my head, the worse it makes me feel, i really do feel sick. and let me tel you, im not normally a person who cracks like this, im normally quite a thick skinned person who doesnt really get affected by things, but ive really had enough

How can bullying and harassment be recognised?

There are many definitions of bullying and harassment.

Bullying may be characterised as offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, an abuse or
misuse of power through means intended to undermine, humiliate, denigrate or injure the recipient.

Harassment, in general terms, is

unwanted conduct affecting the dignity of men and women in the workplace. It may be related to age, sex, race, disability, religion, sexual orientation, nationality or any personal characteristic of the individual, and may be persistent or an isolated incident. The key is that the actions or comments are viewed as demeaning and unacceptable to the recipient.

what are the repercussions of handing in a grievance form? because i heard it will come back to me if its not successfull?? thats what im worried about

I felt the same a few month ago, had a driver and a gaffer both in my face over parcels that CLEARLY would not fit in the bag.

Thought about putting in a grievance against both as they really got me riled, gaffer always sides with this driver, though God only knows why cos he does nowt but moan and wont help anyone but himself.

In the end I didnt bother, waste of paper really.

And why bother arguing over parcels? Just make up extra bags as nessary and have the driver bag meet you! That will sort that issue out!

There is a process for grievances that have been taken out in bad faith against managers which may be what you have heard about. But if yours is in good faith and it is dismissed then I believe there is a process which can lead ultimately to a Tribunal.

Hopefully someone who knows the B&H process better than I can clarify both the "bad faith" and route to tribunal points in due course.

That was part of my arguement, the driver is NEVER there before me, so I have no choice but to take out 2 bags and they were both rammed, if he was to meet me and I only took out 1 bag then I would be 30-40 minutes behind waiting for him. And that aint gonna happen. Told the gaffer this til Im blue in the face, nothing changes, waste of time and effort.

I take it buy that, you mean you take out 2 bags in your private car? Which of course voids the insurance, but nevermind that

It isn't going to be easy at first, but your Line manager will soon kneel down before you. Take your first bag out with you if you so desire. Deliver your 1st bags mail then wait for your next bag, anylonger than twenty minutes late, send it back with the driver. Move onto your next bag etc. until delivery finishes.

Or option 2, f*ck your car off and go out with the driver like your supposed to do and return to work with him as Royal Mail are obliged to do.

Hi

I'm 55 years old, have the HR1 form but wonder if its worth filling in. Have been thro several high stress events, including home flooded and having a family member murdered. Nothing has ever made me feel like I have done over the last 3 weeks.

Get signed off with work related stress if you can, that at way the fact that you are off goes higher than just the office you work in. Talk to your local/area rep.

Are Royal Mail obliged or Have to return you to work? As we still finish when we pouch off at the local Post office?

hi what you can do is phone the bullying helpline talk to them don't be scared they will take it at your pace what they did with me was put me in touch with a place called the gateway and they take you through it and beleive me they are very good at what they do but a word of warning to all once you go to gateway it cannot be stopped and it is dealt with from people outside your area, it's the best thing i ever did and they do tell you what is the best way to deal with it they can even fill in all the paperwork in over the phone.
one trick iv'e found is if we get a new manager who thinks he is god i ask him for the phone number of gateway and they s**t themselves, try it and see the colour drain from them, but don't bottle it up and let it get to you we maybe crap at somethings but THERE is help out there.

I dont own a car so either I take 2 bags on the bus or I get dropped off by someone who does have a car.

And we dont return to the office, just pouch off at the PO and home.

Yes Royal Mail have to get you back to the office within your duty time, this superscedes any bullsh*t local agreement by a dodgy rep. If your line manager states they cannot you convey you back, you will need to make arrangements to get back within your time yourself. Through, either walking, however long it takes. If I walk back it will take an hour so I cut off and hour early! Or catch bus/taxi and get show fare/ticket to manager to refund via petty cash. Once again like anything else, you line manager will eventually get someone to pick you up in the end.

Don't forget to add the extra twist and leave all cut off mail at your pouch/safe drops, just carry your specials back with you. Your line manager will have to go out and retrieve all this after once you inform them where it is etc.. Expect lots of tears and manager stress for a few days. Don't take any bull from them either. You are fully entitled to finish at the delivery office. Which is where the average person will have their car/bike/cycle parked.

You must be half sharp to use a bus. thankyou, over and out.
