2009 Campaign Key Messages
1. JOB SECURITY

Dear Members

Now more than ever employees need to feel secure in their job. You will be aware that the National Agreement covering job security and protection is the MTSF.

This agreement has stood the CWU on firm ground for a number of years now but given the changes the industry is facing it needs to be improved upon.

The employer has a very different view though. They are refusing to re-negotiate the MTSF agreement and in some parts of the UK they are not even abiding by the current procedures that are in place.

We need an agreement that continues to protect any member affected by change but also sets out a future vision for the company. Modernisation is not about constant cuts and the erosion on the service provide. Modernisation is about change by agreement and putting in place plans that will grow the Industry.

We need agreements on the future of –

Deliveries
The current abuse of flexibility cannot go on. The CWU has produced a blueprint for the future of deliveries (please contact the branch for a copy). The small business federation supports the CWU blueprint. This option benefits both Royal Mail and CWU members.

Mail Centres
The current region by region closure program cannot be allowed to continue. They are playing the time old game of divide and conquer. Any agreement on the future Mail Centre structure must protect CWU members and redefine what is ‘reasonable’. Round trips of over 100 miles daily for employees cannot be seen as ‘modernisation’. The future mail centre structure must be NATIONALLY AGREED.

Network
It is about time the network side of the business was grown. When logistics was set up the company pledged to look at new work and products for this function. Surely this is a better way forward than to simply slash away at the earnings of our logistics members?

Conclusion
Only with your support and YES vote can the CWU force Royal Mail back around the table to negotiate a new agreement on Job Security and the Future networks.
Regards
Branch Committee
