And this strike must have an advantage over most others, because the closure of rural Post Offices is one of the main complaints of the Countryside Alliance. So presumably if any managers cross the picket line, they'll be met by a team of horsemen sipping sherry, then blowing a bugle before their hounds follow the scent to chase them through a hedge.

It is very 'tongue in cheek' but the final paragraph does leave a wonderful image.

Mark Steele is consistently brilliant. A few weeks ago he was having a pop at posh schools and before that he had a very funny piece on the Cutty Sark. He used to write for The Guardian, but they got rid of his column for some reason. Probably thought they were too serious to have someone who struck a chord with people and made them laugh.

I now regret sending the Editor of this Paper, a rather harsh E/mail, but being a `Gentleman` I have E/mailed him again, to say, that as an act of atonement I shall be buying in the Morning, Not one BUT two copies of his Excellent Newspaper.

The poor fella gets counter staff mixed up with postmen, and gets post offices mixed up with delivery offices!!!

He obviously doesn't know that the Royal Mail and the Post Office are two seperate businesses, which are owned by RoyalMailGroup.

Don't get me wrong I listen to the Mark Steel lectures and have a lot of time for his approach, but he really should do his homework if he is to apply his humour to what is a serious matter.

It's not funny when he makes himself look ignorant, which is what he has done here and those in the know will now view some of his other work with more scepticism
