Help needed
My wife is an insulin dependant type1 diabetic and currently 22 weeks pregnant. Recently, she has had a number of bad low sugar incidents which have needed my intervention and this has been a particular problem during the night and early mornings causing me to have a number of problems getting to work on time. I test her sugar levels just before I leave and often find she is low, I cannot and will not leave her alone like this as the consequences if she gets into problems are fits, coma, brain damage and then death. RM just refuse to understand though and in the last year I have been put on a stage 1 for having time off to look after my other kids when she was ill, have been charged with late attendance back in May and I am about to be charged with persistent late attendance again on Monday. No matter how many time I tell them that I need to be late sometimes but that I will always come in and make up the lost time any way they want, they just refuse to budge and keep charging me with persistent late attendance - problem is, this time I think they will sack me for it. I am going to be asked what I intend to do about it and all the other bull s**t but really I have no answer. It will happen again and I can try to get her to control her blood sugars better, but it is not easy to do. I will not put RM over my family but I cannot lose my job - what can I do?

Re: Help needed
your dom should be taking your family situation in account and looking to assist you with a family friendly attendance time .
you should speak to your local or area rep and inform atos of your situation.
royal mail have a duty of care to look after your health as this is putting pressure on your home and work life ,inform your area health and safety rep and call your branch secretary who if no one else can help should intervene.
always look after your and your familys health first

Re: Help needed
Tell your dome you think you come under the dda by association and want to be refered to atos and if atos agree put a grievance in

Totally agree with belle, as i understand it, diabetes is covered by the DDA, and so are you by association as a carer, get your grievance in pronto and ask to be referred to ATOS, get in touch with your area rep and your GP, as they should both be clued up on the DDA. Its worth you reading up on the DDA yourself and handing the relevant literature to your DOM as, lets face it, they are mostly clueless!belle wrote:Tell your dome you think you come under the dda by association and want to be refered to atos and if atos agree put a grievance in

Re: Help needed
You should be entitled to dependancy leave or time off for dependants at anytime when your wife is ill to look after your children this is for emergencies and it seem that this would apply to you (this is your legal right). You need to see a rep as soon as possible or phone up the CWU equality department this information can be found on the union website at http://www.cwu.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; under equal opportunties. The following website will also give you some information on time off for dependants which is very useful to justify you case:Cknmonster wrote:My wife is an insulin dependant type1 diabetic and currently 22 weeks pregnant.
