Is my office the only one in the Uk with Postmen doing supervisor job?
We have 3 people who tell the staff to go on the sorting,tip,allocate work and generally do the managers jobs all for the princley sum of £30 extra a week!
Most the staff do not respond to these request's as we dont have a union rep at the moment and as far as we are aware there is absolutly no agreement on this sort of practise.For the most part we ignore them,and to be honest there is a growing resentment to these positions.The other managers are in the office doing paperwork,and the dom sits in his office and appears only when he really has to or is giving a WTL session.
Anyone else have this sort of thing going on in their offices?

COCKROACHES!. Work place coaches i say stamp them out!.

Pretty much what we all suspected.I know the local head union are aware of the situation.Hopefully it can be stopped,as it does seem like a underhanded way of getting the staff fighting amongst itself.But then again that would never happen

I think they've gone so far up that they can now clean teeth from the inside

They tried asking for volunteers to be Supervisors, where I am. But they didn't get any takers. But as we were offered £30 per week, when actually Supervising. It sounds like it's the same scheme. I'm amazed they actually got any volunteers in your Office, to do it!

We have work place coaches but they don't do that, this sounds diffrent. If RM roll that out everywhere then does that mean their will be a cull of managers? do you think they would strike? would you cross their picket line?

Let's think about it.................................. as I pass them by . If they hadn't showed a complete disregard for us then I may have thought about it but not now.

Yes, they are separate. Basically, we were told that the Supervisors, would be supervising Agency Staff, at peak times. So it wouldn't be cost effective, for them to train a Manager to do it. Because for most of the year, they wouldn't be needed. Although they seem to be taking it much further at Themaskedman's Office.

So, to put this is the context of the current climate, have these posts been agreed by the union and is the practice of using "supervisors" an agreed procedure - because it would seem that by local agreement then it would seem to be a "cost saving exercise" and against union advice. Though of course I may be wrong.
The odd thing is that just this very day there has been a recruiting drive for "temporary managers" in my office. And I am seriously considering it

The Supervisors were being requested, IN ADDITION to the current Managers. So it wouldn't have reduced the costs at the time (not that anyone was interested anyway!). So it never occured to me, to query it, on those grounds. But as it would have saved them money in the long term. I think with hindsight, I should have.

Not long after that failed. They started asking for people to become Acting Managers. But this was before all the Strikes started, so I don't know whether that's why they're still asking here, and have started asking elsewhere. Or whether it's because they need to cover the Managers, who get shipped 'round the Country to cross the Picket Lines. Your guess is as good as mine, on that one.

To be honest, I'm glad they gave up on the Supervisor idea. Personally, I thought it was insulting to the Agency Staff. That they weren't thought to be important enough to justify having a Manager to tell them what they need to do. At least this way, we'll have enough Acting Managers, to have a properly trained (well as much as they ever are, these days) Manager for them.

£1560 a year to show the casuals what to do at christmas ........ cost effective
