will i ever be able to go full time?

Have worked for royalmail for a number of years. In the past I wasn't able to go full time due to family commitments. Now, for the past 3 years I have wanted full time but can't get it. Last re-sign was 5 years ago. In that time there must have been 25 Full timers leave our office. These jobs are now covered by A/G's. A couple of full time jobs have been advertised lately but they went to current full timers with 20 years service. Seems my only chance will be an office resign, but everyone keeps saying that it won't happen as it's too expensive. Do you think the current situation of not replacing full timers will ever be reversed? will I always be an A/G?

Probably not but if full time staff were to have their working hours reduced too 35 hours with out loss of pay your hourly rate would go up too and you would gain and not be far off indeed royalmail may well decide too make the four or so hours up but as it stands NO CHANCE!.

I'm afraid that with RM being what it is at the moment you have little to no chance of ever being made up to FT, if RM gets what they want then we'd all be PT.

6 lads in a nearby office who were part time cut off on a daily basis where possible and after 2 months were made full time cos it was costing too much to cover on overtime.

Interesting post Phantom. Don't think we have much chance of that. Everyone seems to be working for the Yankee Dollar. If they did cut off we've got some Dickheads that are willing to cover 2 duties in a day!! Can you believe that?

I've said it before but I believe the CWU should be pushing this Part Time working much harder. I expect they've got bigger fish to fry

They must or they must prepare themselves for a long struggle for we must not go down royalmails Armageddon plan of longer and longer delivery spans and fewer and fewer staff and half the mail centers we have now!.

Agree - otherwise we would 8 hrs delivery 8 hrs sleep and then 8 hrs unpaid overtime because some twonks computer says the 16 hr delivery can be done in 8.
