Lapsing,something i don't get.

Some of you are posting that 5-6-7+ walks ect are being lapsed,baring in mind lapsing is for absence does this mean you've got mass sick at your place,or if not where are the duty holders going.
We're due to laps but no one is off sick or we are not down by any numbers so we can't do it.

I agree it makes no real sense We are mainly lapsing sickness with 3 off at the moment. Then they are allowing 2 more people to book holiday which can mean a total of 5 to cover. Trouble is it varies we have had it as low as 2 which meant we had somethhing like 16 posties to a delivery i was delivering to about 20 calls that day how cost effective is that

Absorption is also for reduced workload it's in the 2007 aggrement if im not mistaken.

The detailed arrangements for phase 3 came after the trials meaning we NEVER GOT TO VOTE ON ON WHAT WE ARE EXPEXCTED NOW TO DO!!!!

In our office it is rounds that have basically become available through natural staffing reasons i.e. staff retiring, being fired for other reasons etc.

They were never put up for pick, so were covered by either those on one hour contracts, or put on overtime every day.

That is the idea too p1ss posties off and make them leave hit out or cut corners and not do the job!. So royalmail can employ more partime staff!.

Trouble is its not been handled fairly or without any testing. Take our firms deliveries before lapsing, no ips but had to come back collect and deliver 9am missorts at the end of their shift. They still on average were finishing about 1 hour before me. Now with lapsing we can go out before the missorts and leave them and so can the firms (who dont lapse) which means they now finish about 1hr and half before me in the week and a whole THREE hours on a sat .

So its very un-fair, yes you should be willing to work your time and most days i am within 15 mins of it but it does stick in your throat when a colleage has done his duty and and a half on overtime and still gone home half hour before you

There are 2 diffrent types of lapsing. The initial type of lapsing that you would have done is 'summer savings' which is covered under phase 2 of pay & mod, this is were a number of duties are lapsed during the summer period when annual leave is high and the volume of mail is lower than normal and a town walk that would usually be completed in 3.5 hours, can be completed quicker. According to our area rep this was only agreed for 1 year ( i'm not so sure as the other option was annulised hours, which will be ongoing.) but certainly should not be taking place outside the summer period which will be defined in your phase 2 agreement.

Phase 3 of pay & mod also allows for lapsing of duties. Under phase 3 your unit rep and dom are requiered to identefy were were savings can be made were the oppertunity exsists. an example of this may be factory runs were there are a high proportion of saturday shuts, a duty may be lapsed and the work distrabuted between a number of factory duties. This could happen all year round.

Where offices are lapsing large numbers of duties it will most likly being done under phase 2.

led to believe you are only supposed to absorb other work if you have time within your normal working hours. here in york central our dom has made it gospel whether we have time or not. in my eyes that is enforced o/t. how the hell our union rep agreed to this is way beyond me. other problem is staff are too weak to stand up and be counted. almost everyone hates it . occassionally they may even refuse. but as soon as dom goose steps out of his office everyone just cowers away.

Your led to belive correctly, it should be within your normal contracted hours, irrespective of what your rep has agreed to.
