DOM says I'm being awkward

Go in this morning, get van keys and go about preping walk, DOM comes over says garage needs your van use this one. So i go outside to do checks on the other van, and the tax disc is out of date, so go back to DOM and tell him. He comes back after about ten minutes and says the van is taxed but he can't find the new disc, maybe transport office haven't passed it on. refuse to drive the van, he says but it's taxed i says,but it's failure to display, he says but its taxed and if they run the reg their computer will tell them its taxed, i say failure to display, he says but so and so's been driving it for last couple of days, i says well give the van to him I'm not driving it, it's my licence on the line i ain't driving it, he storms off muttering about me just being awkward, i go back to traffic office and get original van back. So am i just being awkward or am i right.

Being a member of the awkward squad is certainly a badge that I wear with pride but it's so hard getting the other in my office to stand up that sometimes I really despair

To be honest though, no you did exactly what you should have done, failure to display a valid tax disc is an offence. And if you had been done, do you think the DOM would back you up?

I would also add that you only have the DOM's word for it that it's taxed! - I would want proof!

To be honest think i've been branded as part of the awkward squad for sometime, No i will not work my day off, no i don't want any over time, no i will not drive the crew bus with the 5 bald tyres, until the garage can get down here to change them.

If it aint taxed it may well not have an MOT just because it says it is on his magical computer i believe it not one jot as royalmail have thousands of these magical computers up and down the land that tell us mail volumes are falling and Pegasus works and we don't work hard enough!. Go tell the DOM to suck on his mouse!.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) carries out a computer check each month, as well as roadside checks to identify those vehicles without a valid tax disc. You could face an automatic penalty of £80 as well as a minimum fine of £1000. Your vehicle could be clamped, impounded or even crushed.

Well done mate some doms will try to get you to take any kind of risk to get the job done.

I once drove a crew bus where the brakes felt very weak and the pedal started to become really stiff. It got worse and worse, by the time i limped it back to the yard you had to stand on the brakes to make it stop. A quick inspection under the bonnet found the servo pump bracket broken and the whole thing hanging by its pulley belt I pmt,d it straight away but the next morning it still sitting their
The DOM told me to take it out on delivery as no one could look at it till later I totally refused as the bloody thing was deadly and got branded as "being awkward"

Anyway he paid a postie 3 hrs OT to drive the heap to the repair shop and the mug did with no brakes

Next time ask the DIM if he would like to drive it as he is prepared to put you in the position of breaking the law,you could also remind him that its the O licence that also comes into call as well because he is ignoring the fact that as a DIM he has a legal stance and a duty of care,that being toward the member of staff that he is directing to break the law,a court would take a very dim view if your involved in an accident,what an idiot some of these so called managers are.
