Pressure to do lapsing

Post by Daco »

Throwing in walk this morning (quite heavy) sky mags, catalogues, 3 d2drs as well when I was given my 16th lapsing duty, carried on throwing in and thought I wont be able to fit it all in my duty time. Seen relief lino to tell him he just smirked and said everybody has to do lapsing and walked off :mad . Carried on throwing in beat and went back to see him half hour later said ide do lapsing but would need a ruling on my own beat. He looked stunned, moaned and groaned, looked at his watch and said he would have to ring DOM whos at a meeting off site, he handed phone to me to speak to him and DOM said I cant do anything now you should of said earlier. Explained to him that I did and he repeated himself and said you should of said earlier :arrrghhh :arrrghhh Anyway in the end I had 16th taken of me. The thing that annoys me is you can never have a proper conversation it always ends in confrontation, it does your head in sometimes  all as I want to do is work till my time no more no less. Was a car user, used to do my d2drs on my day off and all the short cuts but no more, thats why I cant fit the work into the hours. :dance Executive action in 2 weeks as well in an already overstretched office  51 walks down to 45, was 62 when I started 7 years ago, mind boggling isnt it. Rant over now, off my chest till tommorrow :wave

The way to answer the pressure managers are putting people under to do laspsing is this....i have said to my manager i have no problem with him wanting to fill my working day and make me do the full 8 hours i am paid for.....i said he can put as much lapsing as he wants on to me and if i can physically do it within my working day i will but i will not go a minute over.....he has no comeback to this
in my office it is possible for us to lapse the walks they want as the traffic is down at the moment.....come september it will be a different matter but untilthen i will continue to go into work and do the job and hours im paid for and no more

I will only do lapsing if I have the time but since our Pegasus revision I've found that only a few duties that allow me to do it :Very Happy and because I'm pretty consistant they've stopped asking me at the moment.

The classic "you should of told me earlier" :confused ...next time ask him what the cut off point is if you are unable to do any extra.

I think he meant 1/16th of a walk - in that the walk is split between 16 posties

Lapsing has been abandoned in our office after only 2 weeks. :nana Didnt work as people claimed OT for not getting out on time.

Instead they have increased IPS by 15 mins per day. Could spell trouble on a heavy day.

I've given up my lapsing fight now as i'm sick of it. as soon as I start I don't even look at my own duty I ask for a van and take out my lapsing bit (kills 20mins) when I come back I then decide if I want OT or cut off or if I can complete ok. Therefore always cutting off the end of my duty so my DOM can't then complain about not doing lapsing. They actually seem happy about it as well cos the lapsing is done

So I do 40 houses plus driving to and from office takes 20mins for lapsing on a normal day more if busy. If doing my own duty in the same time I would cover about 100 houses, senseless RM logic as surely in anyone elses brain pure logic would say I would be better for them if I leave the lapsing!

Thats what i couldnt get my head around at my ex-office...

The lapsed walks were all town walks, and the lapsed sections were all being done by postmen & women who had rural deliverys to do. The DOM insisted that the lapsed sections ( in town) were done before you started your rural delivery.

Thus, any cut-off would be part of rural delivery, which they would have little chance of getting anyone else to do, as it would be several miles from DO and in a very remote area. The common sense way would be to cut off the town bit, which would be much easier to get delivered by someone else ( even by the DOM if he got off his ar$e )

I think the DOM relies on the posties loyalty to their regular rural customers, and plays on this by getting town bit done first..

FCUK RM anyway, couple of hours on betfair today earnt me more than a week of being a slave for :lfo and :cfo

They have recently started lapsing 7 duties at our office and almost everyday there have been cut offs as posties have been unable to finish duties and absorption on time.
The line managers are applying pressure by wrongly telling staff that because of flexibility they should carry on working an extra half hour unpaid past their finishing time everyday.
What a crock , unfortunately some staff feel intimadated about cutting off at the correct time , especially as after cutting off they know they will be brought into the office the following day for an "interview to find out the reasons for the failure".
They have also started testing some individuals sorting speeds on the ips and on their prep frames.
