SURVIVE WITHOUT O/T?

Just thought id throw this in,how many of you,or people at your DO/MC rely on overtime/schedule att to pay the bills.Could you survive on basic pay?What with all the cutbacks and major changes on the way,i know there are plenty in my office who reckon they would struggle bigtime to pay the bills...

I am full time and yes I can cope without Docket - so I rarely do OT. In fact I am sure the bosses use me as a weather vane. If I am working docket then a strike must be looming .

My granny used to say "cut your cloth according to your purse" - advice I have found to be invaluable.

Though on reading an article in the paper the other day someone was complaining about the amount of overtime they would be losing with the strikes, and it was more than I earn in a week! So I can understand the concerns some will be having about the proposed changes.

it is possible to manage without o/t(which i believe if mis managed is taking away permanant jobs)and you should never ever rely on it.

Doing 40 hours for this shower of shite is more than enough for me, our DOM doesnt even bother asking me to do extra as he knows the answer.

But with such a large work force there is going to be an awful lot of people out there who do rely on it. Certainly my experience is without overtime being done most offices would grind to a halt within days, which is why I always say dont strike, just dont do overtime.

Royalmail is cutting our cloth too line it's silk purse with the profits made of our backs while we are run like a bunch of slaves for thier own benifit is this NEW LABOUR :mfo I'd rather a revolution and all the uncertainty it may or may not contain!.

With the way some people in my office grab at the OT, I would say that they seem to need it but as for me, I just do my 40 hours and that's it (most weeks I don't even get D2Ds).

PS. I also buy extra holidays so that cuts my wage down even more.

I used to do loads. Walks, collections, break offs, nights, callers office, van washing, ips, missorts etc etc. In the end it all got too much banging in loads before a holiday or for a newer car it was making me ill . For the last few years ive lived just on the basic and saved for things by putting away a little bit here and there with the help of online banking.
I prob dont have as much material stuff but feel much better

And here lies the problem, only employ people on short contracts but make them work more just on OT and that way you make them less likely to cause problems (wait, do I see the Wal Mart style of management here ).

All overtime will be gone soon so make do with your basic as you never know when the tap will be turned off in your area!.

All our walk overtime has gone it all covered by lapsing now
