Being sent to another office, what is the protocol
Hoping some one can help me with this. Does the policy of last one in gets the worst jobs, (only jobI've ever been in where the least capable are given the hardest jobs ie walks etc)The postie usually sent to other offices in our office is the person who was in last. He is off sick at the moment so does that mean that seniority rules in these circumstances and the next least in seniority then takes on that unfortunate mantle.

Re: Being sent to another office, what is the protocol
Thanks but really looking at the heirarchy involved as I said, it is usually the last person in that gets sent so I would assume that the next junior in terms of time acrued would be the next logical choice. I am asking as I am to be sent to another office but I am not the least senior person in the office. In fact, one of the last people in has had the walk they cover collapsed down in accordance with Pay and Mod yet I am being sent to another office which I think is a liitle unfair.

Re: Being sent to another office, what is the protocol
When i first started, in my first year, i ended up learning 27 rounds. A number of times i started throwing up one in an office, and then was moved elsewhere an hour later. I know it varies in different areas. I just buckled down and kept on hassling them for a more permanent position. It took me about a year and a half.

At my DO they ask for volunteers first (yes some do -because they know the rules), then they check to see if any reserves are free, then I guess they would go down the Juniority route.realitybites wrote:Thanks but really looking at the heirarchy involved as I said, it is usually the last person in that gets sent so I would assume that the next junior in terms of time acrued would be the next logical choice. Re: Being sent to another office, what is the protocol
Trueblueterrier, that is the way I would see it. I am one of three reserves of which I am the most senior. One of the reserves has had his own walk since he started (beleive it or not) and he started after me. If his walk is being collapsed down due to pay and mod, and obviously he knows very few walks (if any) it makes sense to send him and to have me there as I know about 20 of the 30 walks. The dom said to me that I had been chosen as the usual postie is off injured, but he did ask if I had a problem with doing so but isaid I didn't. It was only when I got to thinking why me that things started to make no sense.

Always seems in RM that the better you are able to adapt to different walks, and the more flexible you are, the more you are shat on!
Life ain't fair and it's certainly not being a 'Reserve'. Our 'Floaters' ,LOL as we call them, don't even have regular duties to cover. They might very well have 5 or 6 different walks a week.
I often thought that an experienced Reserve would be God's Gift to his DOM but they still keep shiting on them. If you're an idiot and can't get your head around more than one duty they seem to leave you alone to get on with it
Take it as a back-handed complement that he's moving you about. I know that doesn't help much perhaps the moral of this story is, "Learn to be an Idiot and they'll leave you on a duty!"
(Apologises to those who have a single duty, and are not shat on, and who are not Idiots
)
Cheers

Working in nearby offices – Areas will identify and agree with the CWU locally a approach (which could include the use of volunteers and reserves) to working in nearby offices within employees’ contracted hours which will include travel times and appropriate travel and subsistence arrangements.
Speak to your local rep and find out what the score is.

Thanks for all the input. Dom said he had sat down with the rep who incidentally works at my office. One thing I should mention is I'm not in the union but the ones who aren't being shifted about are!!!

Re: Being sent to another office, what is the protocol
Haven't not joined the union because of some deep rooted meaningful objection, just never got round to it. Realised that there were 4 others in the office also not subscribers, some lifers amongst them as well which made me think not being part of it isn't the end all it seems. Should I read anything into the union members receiving preferential treatment and take it further (if so, where too) or carry on being a doormat for all and sundry. Hard enough having to worry about others further up the food chain without the burden of my peers.

Re: Being sent to another office, what is the protocol
It aint down to preferential treatment realitybites its down to the CWU rep going in and fighting their corner thats one of the reasons to join but the main reason is acording to Crozier we are 25% overpaid and 40% underworked thats not down to RM generosity thats down to CWU members fighting (strike action)for their terms and conditions and a decent wages so join the CWU asap.realitybites wrote: Should I read anything into the union members receiving preferential treatment and take it further (if so, where too).

Re: Being sent to another office, what is the protocol
I don't think it's a case of the Union Members recieving preferential treatment. Far from it. We're not exactly popular at the moment. But if they try to push Union Members around. They can get their Rep involved, who will try to put a stop to it. You on the other hand. Don't have access to that backup.
What I suspect has happened: Is that they HAVE tried it on with your Collegues. But they've successfully put a stop to it. Whereas, you've not been able to.
I suggest that you ask for a copy of all the relevant agreements, including the Pay and Modernisation Agreement (most of which are available in the Downloads section), and any local agreements from the Union Rep. I don't see any reason why he/she would refuse to give you a copy, as they apply to all Employees, whether they're Union Members or not. Study them. And then go to your Manager, with all the information to hand. It'll be much more work for you, than it was for your Collegues. But there's nothing stopping you ensuring that you're treated fairly. You'll just have to fight your battles single handed.
I hope you get it sorted out. Good luck.

just a thought but your collegue whos having their round collapsed is going to find themselves surplus and floating?realitybites wrote:Thanks but really looking at the heirarchy involved as I said, it is usually the last person in that gets sent so I would assume that the next junior in terms of time acrued would be the next logical choice. much the same as yourself.
im in a similar situation to yourself. in my first month i spent two weeks of that in another office,
it made it much harder to settle in learn the names of workmates etc as i was effectively doing that in two offices simultaneously.
