Who's going to buy Royal Mail?
Who's going to buy Royal Mail when they are fighting with the CWU and the workers. They will end up just giving it away to private firms instead of getting the billions they are looking for.

CVC bid £2 billion - not enough according to government.
TNT have formally pulled out of the bidding process but the general feeling is there bid was going to lower than CVCs.
DHL - were not interested.
No other company showed any interest but to be fair these the big 3 were the only ones that probably could afford it.

All that will happen is after our current dispute ends and everything gets (sort of) back to normal and the economy picks up then the Tories will sell off us the the highest bidder (after that it'll only take a few years before the whole things goes tits up and we go bust because of greedy, short termism that exists in todays business world).

Why would TNT, DHL etc etc want to buy part or all of royal mail,
when we do the work for them anyway, and they cream the profits.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Who's going to buy Royal Mail?
How come have mail volumes fell 10% when profits are up and how meny managers have royalmail lost in the massive cutbacks imposed up on the workforce!. We do all the work while they profit and the service suffers. And the business is on it's knees not because of the workers but the greedy :cfo & :lfo and the corrupt :mfo why would anyone take on the shell of a beast consumed by it's own management system and the state!.

Re: Who's going to buy Royal Mail?
No-one is making much money out of DSA. The trick for TNT etc is to weaken RM and they are playing a long game. Right now most of the competition have their own recession-linked problems, which is why the Mandelson bill is in temporary abeyance. RM is now hitting back with the forthcoming price reduction for Mailsort 3. That will be interesting if it works -- in our MC the early shift has virtually gone with the decline in Mailsort, so if some of it comes back they'll have to restaff it pronto.smarterdarter wrote:Why would TNT, DHL etc etc want to buy part or all of royal mail,

Expect the Conservatives will go for full privatisation some time in the next decade, but it won't be one of their priorities.

The conservatives will reintroduce the PSB fairly early on as its ready made and will sail through parliment easy peasy with a Conservative majority.
The irony is that the good stuff in the PSB that we despratley need will come from a Conservative government.

Re: Who's going to buy Royal Mail?
How much is royal mail worth? 2 billion is alot of money!
The 2 billion is probably to cover the pension deficit, of course crozier has taken about a 3rd of that to cover his pension.
