Part Timers Annual Leave
I'd just like to pick everyone's brains about a problem that effects a lot of posties. I've moved office and had to accept a 20 hour contract, that's another problem, what concerns me now is I have been Part Time for 15 months and have very rarely worked less than 40 hours. When I take Annual Leave I get paid 20 hours! Someone in my office recently told me they had that problem but were able to contact HR and there was some employment legislation that said you had to be paid an average of the hours you'd worked over a previous period. Not sure what that period was either 3 or 6 months. Can anyone help or is this another RM urban myth?

I would like to see the CWU campaigning a lot harder to try and resolve the on going problems caused by RMs unwillingness to make PTs up to FTs. I support the CWU, infact my DO may well be balloted for strike action soon and I will strike if asked, but when they ask members to simply do their jobs that means I work only 20 hours and I can't survive on that. Cheers

Re: Part Timers Annual Leave
the problem with making pt to ft is very much a catch 22 situation. i sympathise fully with those that can't manage on 20 hours per week money but as long as part timers are doing overtime at royal mails beck and call then there is no need for royal mail to make these people full time

Yes, you should be paid for the average hours worked over (I believe) 13 weeks, there was a recent Employment Tribunal that confirmed it so, you need to contact HR and tell them.

Re: Part Timers Annual Leave
Thanks for the info
Done my sums with the use of a spread sheet and I've averaged 40 Hours 58 Mins so I will be sending off a letter to HR. I expect they'll wriggle a bit but I find they normally pay up when they realise the're not going to fob you off! Why is it so bloody difficult just to get paid for what you do in this company?
I will pass on this info to fellow PTers in the office as I'm sure they're all in the dark as well. Pity... I think my DOM was doing pretty well at working towards his bonus! Just a quick one for stupidboy, never judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. I hear what you're saying, though I've already said I'd be willing to "work properly" on a trial basis but surprisingly it's some of the FTers that aren't willing to come in later and prove a point! Why should I cripple myself financially to improve the duty of colleagues who are, from my point of view, a lot better off than me in the first place?
Cheers

When the Union ask people to do the jobs right/safely its not about refusing OT in fact faar from it.Dorset Plodder wrote: but when they ask members to simply do their jobs that means I work only 20 hours and I can't survive on that. Cheers
Its about starting on time and taking your breaks.
Its weighing bags, only taking one bag out and get the drivers to take the rest.
Its not about not using your car - its about using it as a mobile pouch drop or moving if from one point to another on your duty. Using it to get to your duty is not prefect but they accept it happens.
If you are going to go over its not about cutting off or doing overtime - its about telling your manager you can't complete in the time given and letting them make the decisions. If they offer OT take it and claim for it. If they don't or refuse to pay OT then cut off.

Re: Part Timers Annual Leave
Been told by HR that annual leave based upon average hours worked only applies to someone on a 1 hour contract?

same here.acas says that if it volantary overtime it doesnt count if its complulsery (as we all know it is)then its an average.eldritch1987 wrote:Been told by HR that annual leave based upon average hours worked only applies to someone on a 1 hour contract?
9.2 of my contract signed 2 years ago states that as a public serv ice a measure of overtime is required as a term of employment including bank holidays and weekends as and when ..
so my contract would tend to back up my legal right to average holiday pay
accas also said ,WHERE THE HELLS YOUR UNION ON THIS IS WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

They need to get a definitive answer for the holiday entilement, my opinion is that someone on the maximum contract (40 hours) OT is voluntary but those on shorter contracts BUT are acting up to cover those FT hours should be paid holidays for the longer hours. (I hope that makes as much sense to people reading it as it does in my head

Re: Part Timers Annual Leave
is this still possible to phone HR and get paid average hours rather than basic hours over the past 13 weeks?
Also what happens if you are on a 4 day week i assume you use 4 days annual leave rather than 5 since the psp doesn't run on hours only days in our office.
someone please clarify.
