Leaving RM was through my choice and I went back to the classroom and 5 years later doubled my wages and don't have to tolerate the cr>p hours/cr;p management that I used to have to endure 6 days a week. If you really want to make a statement then do it the right way and work your way above the management and out of your current situation-Because It worries me that if you do it the wrong way, they will screw you over and leave you in a muddle at the end of a very long que.

the recession is already being used as a weapon,however when your terms and conditions are eroding literally on a daily basis you have to make a stand.

When the basic was £311.50 each week. I used to do a walk and then do one on docket twice a week and still be home for 1-2pm so I was taking home about 400 quid a week for walking the streets.

I think that was decent money.

At least I would join the dole queue knowing I'd stood up to RM and supported my fellow workers in the fight for our future, I mean lets face it the way things are going i.e. The government trying to privatise the company, hours being cut to part time etc we may all end up in that dole queue anyway.

who's going to do the posties work then ?, when we have all worked our way up to and above the management level ? who's going to sweep our streets , who's going to stand on the assembly line, whos going to look after the old ? , whos going to serve in our shops ? etc get the picture ?

Oh dear. I just saw a bit about the dispute on the news and thought i'd add my tupence.

It seems I am to be one of the minority who has really beaten those management swines and unfortunatly the majority appear to be content in going round and round in circles.

I can see where you are coming from, but there comes a time when you just have to do something. When sitting on your hands is just not good enough we need to inform the general public on what is happening, the bullying , the disregard of peoples dignity and bloody stupidity that goes on. There is no need for it, there tactics and lack of management leadership is driving the business down, not us. They are only interested in scoring petty points with sickness stages, trumped up charges and using the discipline code like a nuclear weapon.

The government has sat back and been at worst compliant in all this, I think as a union we should withdraw all our support to the labour party. I say that as an ex labour party official and a supporter for many years, voting labour now is like voting for Maggie Thatcher. The private banks, car industry and others get massive billions in hand outs and we get nothing from the present government, the same government that owns us.

The public will get the service it deserves, maybe in ten years time we can all look back like we do now on british rail because that people is what is going to happen after the next election. TNT post anyone ?

Blimey Locker Dave touched a raw nerve didn't he? How many times have you bumped into the public though and they say, "I used to be a postie, wonderful job, I know how you guys work. Two bags of mail stopping to chat and have a cup of tea finished by 11 and home in time for my part time afternoon job etc etc...." When was that 1960?

The public, and ex-posties, have no idea how this job has changed for the worst. I often take a few minutes to talk to a customer if they complain, "You're much later today or I haven't had any mail for a few days." They're really quite shocked when you tell them about lapsing, summertime savings & cutting off. RM are doing a good job of convincing the public we're the ones causing the problems. I suggested to our local rep that CWU organise a D2D to explain to customers. "We have the cabability to deliver them!" He said RM wouldn't let us deliver them. I'm sure we could find some way around that!
