Phase 3 absorption What if ......

Post by your_postie »

What if? – phase 3/absorption

If we agree to do the extra work but do our ‘jobs correctly’, what will be their next step when we either book even more overtime or cut off... performance issues again?

Is that their only weapon?

Are management having any success with this tactic?

I dare say they will all go that way (power mad), as the forces above shall simply say to the DOM's 'if you're not up to the job, we'll get someone in who is'

But is that it, perfomance issues?

I feel that they should be looking at thier own performance before they start with us,i had a simlar conversation with some mates the other day we were trying to think how many times we had seen a manager do anything to do with the job,we have so far seen them watch jonathan ross on i player,do the shopping with tesco on line oh and e-bay for what ever, the kettle goes on pretty regular, other than that they beat staff with the black stick. :cuppa

How can we not accept absorption when firstly mail is down (been a postie for over 20 years and yes it is down alot) and secondly the idiots despite we dont have job and finish anymore still come in early, dont take breaks and rush round. They have no leg to stand on when moaning about taking a bit more of a walk. I even said weeks ago that despite the fact we only absorbed duties on a mon and tues that people were still coming back far to early later in the week and it would soon be an absorbed walk or 2 every day apart from saturday. And yes this has now happened this week. The only people we have to blame are ourselves and its too late now to do anything or complain.

Yes, but someone needs to report it happening to them. Some may be too frightened to do so.

Thats the problem they started with making managers bonus's related to performance targets so to earn more they have to cut more,i heard one of our managers say the other day they had to cut out the hours because if they dont they are not going to get what they are due in thier pay, things are not to good for them because they have been caught out a few times with the quality people coming in and finding mail. They have also been told that if they dont do as they are asked then they will get rid of them.

They've said that to my managers in London as well,it all over that place, that's why the puppets,are,err..........................puppets.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Well, we had the first day of our 'absorbtion' today.
Everyone, I'm glad to say, came in on time, didn't use cars, took breaks etc.
Quite a few cut off from their own walks and some (me included) couldn't do the absorbed work because we ran out of time.
Guess what, on returning to the office at 2.17pm, I, along with many others, was issued with a 'verbal warning'!!
When I asked why, I was told that it was because I hadn't taken out the absorbed work. I pointed out to the DIM that I had reached the end of my paid hours and I had not had sufficient spare time in my duty to take out the extra work.
I further mentioned that the agreement on absorbtion states 'where time allows', with that a sort of glazed expression came over his face  and he said that a further verbal warning would be forthcoming if I did it again and then 'more serious action' would be considered.
Surely this is bullying and harassment of the worst kind?
We will see what happens tomorrow.

They made us take the absorption work out we had to do that first all we did was bring our own walk back if we ran out of time, since then they have implemented a new revision on the town staff but the rural and firms have not had a revision done on thier duty's,to be fair some walks are working but most are right on the edge but there are some walks where it is so clear they are just to big, those staff are getting a rough deal managers having a shot at them all the time,we have so many grievences in it's getting silly.
