Lieu Days

Wot's the score with the Lieu Days. In our office we only seem to be able to get them in Feb or Mar [ low annual leave ] and the managers [ if that's what you can call them ] aren't the slightest bit intrested in helping you out. Just this last week a workmate came in on his day off to help someone out yet later in the week we are inundated with spare staff from other offices. Does this type of thing go on in most offices or are we blessed with two incompetent a***holes.

You're blessed your office only have two incompetent a***holes to be honest. As for your question in our office you can take them whenever but only after a year has past! I have been told that the days should be taken the next day after the day in Lieu though.

Day of in Lieu is when your day off falls on a bank holiday (or any official holiday). It's credited to your annual leave so you do not lose out (although naughty managers tend to forget to give you it back).

Strange thing is, when it falls on THEIR day off they remember it!

Like everything in royal mail the incompetence is office depending... Some do, some don't use this rule.

I see. I should be due 2 or 3 then, from last 19 months. Never had a day off (other than holidays taken when I'm told to take them).

Not in our d.o as long as the day has gone i.e my wally week fell on the may bank holiday already claimed the day back and used it.Also christmas week also falls on my wally cant have those days until after dec 27 shame though the way things are going the more time off i can get the better

remember if they are collapsing walks this is so they CAN give lieu days so if they are collapsing walks and not giving out extra leave somethings wrong dig deeper

if a bank holiday falls when you're on annual leave its automatically credited.
if a bank holiday falls on your rotational day off then its not. you need to keep a record of it and claim it back.

Our Days in Lieu are carried over to the following year's Winter Annual Leave.
But you can apply to take them as Leave Out of Course, which might or might
not be granted, depending on the reason, the amount of other people on leave,
and the Resource Centre Manager's decision.

What are the laws governing lieu days ?.
For example , I might have a rota day off that falls on Christmas ,thus owing me a day off (lieu day) .
I may want a day say mid June of a wedding . If I give my boss plenty of time ,is it then his job to find a way of giving me that day , or is it just pot luck ?.

Pot Luck.

There is no automatic right for anyone to take specific days as a holiday, only that there is a statutory minimum to be taken over the year.

However if you do book it and its accepted then they are legal considerations if they want to cancel it.
