Lapsing out of summer.
I'm sure i read on here some of you have been doing it,it's just a summer thing right?
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

yes, but we started ages ago and some people on the boards have made comments that they have just started it, so guess it must be different in every office which is a bit strange

Re: Lapsing out of summer.
RM are using both phases 2 and 3 to confuse DOs that are not being vigilant. The means are there within the 2007 Agreement to stop RM in their tracks, but too many posties still have the 'job and finish' mentality so only cause further problems for themselves down the line.
For example, RM will argue that as posties are lapsing duties during the summer period, and are still returning to the DO ahead of their official time, there is spare capacity in hours to be utilised and will try to extend the lapsing into the autumn pressure and beyond. Also citing that long-term absence is good reason to lapse walk(s) permanently.
It is not an easy task for Union Reps and H&S Reps to get posties to keep in line and stop coming in early, using their own vehicles, finishing early, ignoring H&S procedures, etc. Reps very often end up in the middle arguing with both the DOM and colleagues! I don't envy them at all.
The other difficulty for Union Reps is the replacement of full-time staff contracts with part-time reduced hours contracts when they leave; if they can argue for replacements at all! DOMs are using the 'think yourself lucky you get anyone, mate' argument to justify their action on meeting budget targets.

We all took our own sweet time untill in the end they had to let us go. 3 manager's were prepping the walk's when I left.POSTMAN wrote:I'm sure i read on here some of you have been doing it,it's just a summer thing right?

Re: Lapsing out of summer.
It's quite shocking at the disparity between offices up and down the country, some of the
issues which London have been ballotted on,have been implemented up north over 18 months ago.
Summer lapsing has since become a permanent fixture, based on a loose interpretation of one
element of the P&M agreement....working the hours you are paid for!
This is all they seem to recognise now,and regretably as it stands,if our office and others in the region
are ballotted it will not return a yes vote.
The only modernisation we have seen is managers now prep walks into street order, prior to someone
else throwing it off,and yes someone else taking it out.

So managers on £12 an hour do your jobs to earn a bonus while they send you out and do the hard work!. TOO MANY MANAGERS SPOIL THE WORK PLACE!.robd wrote:It's quite shocking at the disparity between offices up and down the country, some of the

Re: Lapsing out of summer.
Work for a very small DO my walk has been lapsed from end of june until 31st august (so I have been told).I have been working out of other DO`s last few weeks all a bit stressful but OT has been good so shouldn`t complain
One thing has been bugging me though
I could not work out how it saved RM money in the long run as Im doing at least 15 hours a week more than my original contract
After reading this thread Im now starting to wonder if this lapsing wasn`t done to prove a point and now they know it can be done am I ever going to get my old job back.
One last thing am I the only one who thinks the mail really isnt that light in the summer

Re: Lapsing out of summer.
Lapsing hasnt really been that big an issue in my office because the managers seem to have been sensible about it
2 duties lapsed
each man takes about 10 minutes each of walks closest to office except on saturday and the odd really busy day.
I'm not sure the ideas of modernisation by RM are that bad, its just AWFUL implementation by its managers

Re: Lapsing out of summer.
Both duties were part-time walks which havnt had regular post-men on them for over a year. Retaining new part-time guys is a major issues since none of the duties can be done on 22.5 hour contracts and OT is being refused. The young guys being taken on are being intimidated and not supported by their full time collegues or union. But these guys are being expected to vote to preserve the conditions of full-time staff. I believe this is a national issue which at some stage will have to be accepted by senior postal staff
