10% drop in volume?

Post by mailman71 »

was speaking to a manager today who kept blethering about this 10% drop in volume we keep hearing about,i told him that even in the worst case senario there was this drop it did'nt mean that we missed that percentage of calls.
i had to explain to this guy that instead of customers getting 4 or 5 items they might only get 3 or 4 and we would still have to go to the same amount of doors, his answer was to shake his head and walk away muttering to himself that this was'nt the line they were fed.

Yes i totally agree and you are 100% right and as i have many large detached houses on my walk ive put this argument across many to management times and it always gets ignored.
Having said that the mail in my office (letters and flats, not packets) has gone very light even for this time of year.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

they base volume on what is profitable or brings money in through the door , it's planet bean counter mentality - their " answer " is a panic driven slash and burn which obviously doesn't work as it's all still got to be delivered .

There's a long line of cause and effect to :lfo & :cfo with allegedly corrupt bonus schemes and far too top heavy top down and old fashioned style . RM does not sell double glazing or stone cladding and the UK is different from Holland as RM is different from TNT .

The fundamental mistake is confusing efficiency with profit .

We were told in Work Time Lying that traffic for the previous week was down 22,000 items for the same week last year. The DOM says this shows a need for urgent savings. Sounds like traffic is down quite a bit, eh?

But if you look at it another way...

This drop equates to around only 26 items per day per delivery in my office. Hardly a massive drop in traffic is it?

As always Royal Mail will lie, cheat and spin their way to cuts and managers bonuses. Dont believe the hype.

If we are apparently losing 10% of mail each year does that mean in 10 years there will be no mail :hmmmm
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Its more like a 10% in revenue, ie: the DSA mail is worth less than RM own products. Another reason why all the cuts they are making are failing cos they don't match the quantity of mail in the system.

There is no decline in the amount of letters that are delivered! its just worth less because of the stupid DSA that was forced on us, no natural market forces are to blame for this f***ing mess!

BUT what about the rise in regs and packets ,which never gets a mention .
Our walks were done on an 85% call rate with no bag refreshment factored in and 1% packets ,eveyone works out about 4 hours plus ,roll on Christmas :pray

the argument they used was if RM didn't deliver that loss making DSA , the other firms would deliver it - er ! - yeah right ! :d'oh! , little problem of infrastructure , IF they did deliver it , it would be a Baz and his white van and dole cheats and East European immigrants doing it - type operation , Mail is a bit different from Pizza leaflets and free papers :d'oh!

The official line is that they are " Granny Parcels " - some of it goes back to the European directive and " forgetting " to ring fence the USO , add a lot of failed free market dogma and ideology and New Labour and their hired hatchet men being too eager to go along with it and you've problems  :d'oh! .

TNT are regarded as a bit of a joke in Holland , it's far less rural and many of the properties are multi - occupancy with communal entrances and mail boxes . TNT and DHL are less reliant on just letters / flats and parcels / packets unlike RM .

Apparently they've cut back to 2 /3 times a week , delivering to tea - time . Probably be get your mail watching " Corrie " here , be fun tramping round sink estates at that time of day :hmmmm

Really? There's a poster on here called "Pompeyboy" and supposing he actually works at POMC, ask him what's happened to the Early processing shift there. Nothing to do with DSA either.
So why do you DO posties keep making the same statement about volumes when you're not in possession of enough data to make an accurate judgement?
"Because my walk takes just as long" is no reply.

Still, I suppose we need another "volumes" thread as it must be at least three weeks since the last one ended.... :arrrghhh

You speak volumes but someone needs too hit the mute button!. And by the way you are wrong the reason is they are moveing the mail too the center of their hub network so they can close nearby offices and reduce shifts and head counts and SERVICE by bringing collections forward with later and later DELIVERIES up till three of four PM!.

And if the mail hadn't dropped off considerably in the last couple of years, they wouldn't have the spare capacity to be able to do that, would they? Most MCs up to 2006/7 ran virtually flat out 24 hours a day Monday-Friday.
So no, not wrong at all.

Wrong as always it is because new machines and later deliveries and earlier collections it is a SHAM OF A SERVICE if you T-MAN wish to defend it on the basis you so say you are as floored as royalmail senior management!.

Apparently all 2nd class is being moved to Soton from Pompey too. Does this mean later mail thus later deliveries for the guys down there?
