The Queen's garden party attracted the usual crop of lefty republicans. Spied with a dainty teacup and saucer was burly Billy Hayes, head of the posties' union. Teased by TUC comrades, the blushing Scouser protested that he had accepted Her Maj's invitation because 100,000 of his members work for the Royal Mail. I hear Brother Billy, to salve his conscience, smuggled an SWP anti-privatisation leaflet into Buck House and left it under a tree. Gone are the days when The Workers, United, Will Never Be Invited!

Not the puddings and pies, no that wasn't the attraction, it is the desire for notoriety and the name dropping syndrome at cocktail parties - you know how it goes - "awreet Billy how's it hangin" - "Well as I said to Her Maj last weech" and again "Hows things goin with the action Bill" - "Well as I said to Her Maj last weech" - "OK Bill how were the pies at the Garden Party" - "Well as I said to Her Maj, the first 10 were OK then I switched to the pasties and they were rank, I only put 14 in the doggy bag" - "Were they for the lads on the picket line Bill" - "No they were for the dog".

there's a grain of truth in that - The Future Right Honorable Member for Greystone Towers possibly - he'd win this one , probably the only thing he could win

He has done something though for the people who decide on knighthoods, he has through various strategies kept the CWU funding the Labour Party. I am not totally sure what happened at Conference about the affiliation but I heard it got heated and was disafiliation was voted down.

Well I've never known Her Maj to be wrong in an opinion - mind you I have to be completely honest and say if I was invited to a Garden Party I would go - I've seen Her Maj on two occasions, both as a serving soldier, but if I was invited to a Garden Party with you know who I would (respectfully ) decline - who needs friends in low places after all.

I have worn a uniform for most of my working life and I have to say that it has some merit because people are under no illusions as to your status - you are what they see - that can be terrifying in some guises and a whistling postie in another - the other sort of disguises I save for special occasions, batman, spiderman - you know the sort of thing or probably not - dgp certainly would.
