CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THEY'VE HEARD ANY NEWS ON A MEETING TODAY AT 4.30 WITH R M , CWU AND ACAS PLEASE.

There is a meeting with ACAS at 4.30pm today I have received a E-Mail from CWU Confirming this.

But nothing has been released as yet (Could go on all night) All depends on whats on offer:d'oh!

I honestly cannot see Royal Mail making any offer at all.
They have time and time again refused to budge pumped their chest out and said go on strike it will not make a jot of difference.
They have told their managers to prepare for IA and told all their customers that they are sorry there will be a dispute.
To now move their position would be suicide for any future IR issues. However if Postcomm do not suspended the fines during IA that will without a doubt swing it our way.

But now GB has been officaly confirmed as leader and has taken over as leader and takes over in just two days as PM he is able to start intervening!

As i said on another forum,although the two sides are meeting this evening with ACAS,i personally dont hold out much hope of a deal at all.The leaders of both RM & CWU have a lot of pride to keep hold of,i just hope niether side put that in the way of any sort of agreement.

Please do not feel i am knocking the union,i have always supported them throughout my 28 years service.I have my fingers crossed for some movement from both parties concerned.

there seemsto be some uncertainty about what action to take within the mdec. people are talking of going with
the flow but no one seems to be able to give a definite answer as to their action on Friday. what is the feeling? just
heard the talks have ended with no progress being made

New Royal Mail strike talks fail

The national postal strike will be the first since 1996
Fresh talks aimed at halting Friday's national postal strike have ended without any progress, according to the Communication Workers' Union (CWU).
A union spokesman said: "There was no new offer from Royal Mail, and no meaningful discussions".

He said the stoppage, the first in 11 years, would go ahead.

In addition to turning down the Royal Mail's 2.5% pay offer, the CWU fears the company's ongoing restructuring plans will cause up to 40,000 job cuts.

The Royal Mail counters that it cannot afford to offer any more money and needs to make itself more efficient.

CWU members voted for the strike action with a majority of 77% on a turnout of 60%.

MDEC Action, its hard to gauge how people are going to react. People I spoke too are beginning to see the union's point of view but as we are paid Â£50 a week less than posties no-one can afford to loose a days wages. I will do one but there is no way I can afford to loose any more wages, Royal Mail are using this fact against us.

Yesterday, we had WTL on Long Term Strategy and there investment this year coming is Â£100 million on pay rise, Â£108 million on dividend for us all and Â£11.5 million on training. The basic message for MDEC is come to work as there will be not alot of mail and it will be very quiet, if you phone in sick you will not be paid as also if you don't turn up you won't get paid.

We will be having a peaceful picket outside main entrance and both car parks.

I can't afford to lose wages either

But

I definately can't afford not to make a stand

Hopefully - short term loss for long term gain

i think everyone is in the same position regarding that we cant afford to lose wages , but if we dont do this then laural and hardy will just keep making more and more changes and cuts etc and before you know it it wont be cwu membership it will be job centre plus . think on and support the union . my phone bill will have to wait a few weeks and im on rolling tobacco to compensate a days pay.

I agree with all that's been said here. I too cannot afford to lose a day's pay for each day we strike, but neither will I cross a picket line. I did'nt in 1996 and I won't do it now. Whether we strike or not, there WILL be job cuts, RM are out to save money by whatever means they can. There WILL be contracts lost, but that won't be neccessarily due to strike action, as you're aware, someone offered Amazon a better deal than RM's. Having said that, RM will not want to give an inch on this so we have to hang in there and hope for a quick result.

in relation to the job cuts, a guy in my place said he heard that ones where asked if r m cud buy contract hours off them? meaning they give you so many thousands to go to say 20 hours contract... i wud be happy with that, 10k or so and get another p-time job to tie in and once find a full-time one leave!! at least you wud be leaving with a bit of money behind you... they will no doubt try to sack as many full-timers b4 they get to that stage, thats why i wanna hang in incase that happens.. hard to knw..

I asked my manager how much I would receive if I opted to a buy-down to 28 hrs. He worked it out there and then and it came to just over Â£2,200 and that was for 13yrs service +my age. I would not retain my driving duty and would have to take whatever duty was going, which could end up being a reserve. So it's on hold at present.
