CWU Day of action July 17th?
We here in North Somerset Clevedon ,Yatton and Bridgwater our on a 24 hour strike this Saturday. On returning to office today at end of duty there was a letter on everyones frame from management warning us of the implications of the strike! The usual lose a days pay, lose business, reputation etc.
It also stated " This strike will not be a one off the CWU have already called for a day of action on the 17th of JULY so you will lose 2 days pay- is it worth it?
First we have heard of it! Any ideas anyone? We were never balloted on that one?

Go into your DOMs office with a big smile on your face, thanking them for letting you know that you'll be off another day

You mean you were balloted with the stipulation of striking for only 1 day.somerset wrote:We here in North Somerset Clevedon ,Yatton and Bridgwater our on a 24 hour strike this Saturday. On returning to office today at end of duty there was a letter on everyones frame from management warning us of the implications of the strike! What the day of national action means is that everyone who has a live ballot and if their local dispute is not settled then they will all be on strike on 17 July. Kind of showing solidarity from all striking offices to each other.

Sorry teebs but branch told us at gate meeting to on go strike this saturday but no mention of industrial action on the 17th? You all might think of us down here in Zummerzet as carrot crunching yokels! But no one said anything about industrial action on the 17th to us! Bit odd when dom has to tell us and not the union?

Re: CWU Day of action July 17th?
the day of action on july 17th requests that all offices that have allready balloted should take action on this day and that all other offices should be doing their jobs properly.
as it is a local office result you can take whatever action your unit wants ,it does not have to be a 24 hour strike

There is one action that cwu members can take where no industrial action is presently taking place. They can still legitimately show solidarity by not working their day off and/or declining any offer of 'extra' as overtime for that week.

As you are out on Saturday it is very unlikely that your branch will also call you out on the 17th!!
As for what offices who are not striking can do ........... DO the job safely/properly, hold members meetings and ask your branch to send speakers to higlight what is going on across the UK.
Hundreds of offices will be taking action on the 17th. Its no good the other units hoping other people will solve the problem. This is a fight for everyone and the 17th will be a key day whether you are striking or not.

Re: CWU Day of action July 17th?
Will london be going out again on the 17th then as we are going out on strike tomorrow?
If so why didnt they just delay tomorrows until the 17th as many many people arent happy losing a days money,so losing two days in two weeks might be quite hard for some.
Londons already been out last month so this could end up being 3 pay days lost in little over a month.
Also any information on any end to the strikes and any meetings/ agreements being reached with RM?

Let's put it this way you and your office has got some fight about it would you rather be in an office who has conceded everything and gained nothing at least you have something to loose!.Lowkeyizsik wrote:Will london be going out again on the 17th then as we are going out on strike tomorrow?

Re: CWU Day of action July 17th?
we are all pissed off at losing money but the alternative doesnt bear thinking about, only by showing RM that we can and will stand strong no matter the hardships will we come through this with an agreement that is negotiated nationaly and considers everybodys strenghts and weaknesses and protects everyone. So please no bitching about losing money and lets be determined to see this through, and lets keep one thing in mind the Managers will be the next ones in the firing line and i for one cant f**king waitLowkeyizsik wrote:Will london be going out again on the 17th then as we are going out on strike tomorrow?

Re: CWU Day of action July 17th?
Our office will stand up and definately wont concede.
However, only this week a revision through EA was imposed in our office taking out 2 walks.
As there was no cooperation from the union the new walks are too much as ips a nightmare. Its like ive just started again.
As a whole revision is already imposed in our office, what have we to gain through striking and striking again?
Dont get me wrong we wont give up, but would rm take the new revision away? I doubt it!
Cwu say they are trying to stop rm steamrollering into offices, but they are doing it everywhere, and will strikes stop this? I doubt it.
What basically will we gain from strikes? I asked our area rep at a meeting when he came to our office and he said he couldnt guarantee no job cuts,as through modernisation it would be an inevitability.
Tomorrow we must make a stand and show rm WE are the workers WE run this company and that WE are united!

CHANGE IS BEING FORCED UPON US ALL!. But striking will drag ROYALMAIL kicking and screaming to the table whether they like it or not!. You i and the rest of us cannot negotiate change but change will not work without our consent only through our union the CWU!.Lowkeyizsik wrote:Our office will stand up and definately wont concede.

Re: CWU Day of action July 17th?
London workers will be taking strike action next friday and will be orgainising a March from Corizer `s offices on the Victoria Embankment to BERR in Victoria street SW1.
The reason we are taking further strike action is quite simply Royal Mail are imposing further executive action in over 25 other offices in London. Moreover they have taken executive action in 10 other offices already. The fact is we have to hit back and hit back hard , no one likes being on strike and off course no one can afford to lose money.
However the alternative is that we allow Royal Mail to remove our terms and conditions layer by layer and allow them to destroy our industry.
London took this action together as we knew that if we fought this on a unit by unit basis then we will lose unit by unit. Thats why we balloted the whole of London and got a 91% yes vote. Thats why we need to keep taking action in order to fight Royal Mail`s attack which including things like imposing revisions, removal 4 day weeks, complusory transfers and cutting 40% of the workforce.
