at the office i work at we have just got rid of the summer lapse walks and increased our walk times to 4hours to 4hours 15mins by scraping 3walks,while i can just about finish on time most of the week i dont know of any other office that is doing this,any one else on here doing monster deliveries like this

we where going to do that untill our manger said we would have to laps one walk next year as well so se told hime to stick it and we all work to rule and dont do any lapsing any more as we all turn up dead on time and all do the sorting and then have 20 min break then go on our frames throw them up then have another 20 min break then leap the office anout 10.30am and get back about 2 .15 and go home . :cfo

sorry but am i being a bit stupid.....i keep reading in here about walks being increased to 4hour 4hour 15 minutes etc....did our union not agree in the last pay and modernisation deal to a maximum of 3hours 30 mins for deliveries....surely any office going against this must have had to vote on it as a local agreement and not just have it implemented by a manager and by the same token any office doing less than 3hours 30 can have them increased to this but no more

The paragraph below was taken from the Single Daily Delivery Agreement back in 2004. I have not read of any nationally-agreed variation to this since then. However, there may well be locally-agreed variations on the delivery span depending on how the days/hours are worked in Delivery Offices. Any variation requested from management to the 3.5 hour delivery span should be passed on to the Branch/Area/Divisional Rep by your Unit Rep for clarification before any agreement at Unit level.

I hope the below claifies things for you ...

b) Town Residential routes will be planned on a 3.5-hour delivery span. All routes will be planned on the basis of equalisation, and a fair and manageable workload. The planning process will have the full involvement of the CWU and employees.

c) Health & Safety and Walk Design will play a major part in dealing with weight on delivery and fatigue issues. To this end all walks will be risk assessed and the appropriate equipment provided as a matter of course. CWU Area H&S representatives will be fully involved in all aspects mentioned above.

Royal Mail puts its own interpretation on the above where it deems it possible to implement longer delivery spans. It does get a little messy when you look at the Pay & Mod Agmnt where mention of 'flexibility' and 'utilized hours' occurs as well.
RM is very good at interpreting any agreement to suit its need and purpose at any given time.

Sadly, being 'economical with the truth' has become second nature to the majority of DOMs and senior managers within RM. Unit Reps and staff need to question any change to existing work practices etc made by the DOM, as they will try to introduce their agenda by any means possible. So always be on your guard!

i think the term "agreed at a local level" comes into play here, our office has been sh@t on from a great height ,union rep was talking evr so every thing just got pushed thru.the rest of us are left behind to get on with it and try and make the best of things

UNFORTUNATELY ALL THE ABOVE IS A CROCK OF s**t. CWU ADVISED US TO VOTE FOR 4.5hr WALKS BACK IN FEBRUARY. THE ROUTES HAVE NOT BEEN PLANNED ON A BASIS OF EQUALISATION AND FAIR AND MANAGEABLE WORKLOADS. THEY ARE BASED ON BULLYING BY THE MANAGER. I'M SURE RM HAVE BASED THEM ON LETS SICKEN THE WORKFORCE AND HOPE SOME WILL LEAVE.

My walk takes about 4hrs but on that goes 30 mins driving time back and forth which is not counted at all So most days if i get out by 9am i am back about 10 mins before my time. Sats arent so good as unlike more compact walks i cannot knock much time off so i normally go over by 30 mins

WHY are walks 4 plus hours when they should be 3 and a half max....were do you have a piss or dump.......all body clocks arnt the same.....there no bushers on my walk to hide behind.....or jiggers was,nt it agreed that walks should not be longer than 3 and a half hours long.........what do your reps say.....

Most walks in my office are around the 3 1/2 hour mark, although they vary from 2 hours to 4.5 hours ?, some people finish 2 hours before someone else fair I dont think so

I wonder if it is possible to write into the constitution of a rep (or contract) that he must be able to complete his full term of office after each election and that if he envisages any chance that he may apply for EVR or hand his notice in then he must inform the Branch and resign at the earliest opportunity. This would, in the short time I have thought about it, stop such situations happening.

Or perhaps if not the above then how about having a requirement that a local rep must declare any conflicts of interest when he is addressing the membership or discussing or recommending agreements.

A final thought what about having a HYS survey for the CWU every so often. Not just local reps but also branch and national, this would give imo the membership a greater say in where they want the CWU to go.
