unable to gain entry
hi i have a problem on my delivery and wonder if anyone knows exactly what im supposed to do. there is a block of flats on my walk that i cannot get in and it seems everyday i have to sign up the letters utge and put back in pillar box, this has now happened 3 days in a row. im told by the management that after a week of not gaining entry i should endorse the letters and return to sender. sure ly it would be more sense for my manager to write some sort of letter for the tenants so i could stick on the door to let them know what is happening. im worried if i just sign them up after a week if any comebacks about this my manager will deny saying he told me to do so. any info on this please

Ensure that the DOM countersigns and dates anything that you attach your name/signature too, so that you have it in writing.
I too have an occasional problem with access to flats. I always return the mail to the DO, band it, date a written label with the bundle explaining why it is on the frame and get the DOM's signature as well. That way you are covered if there is any comback from an upset customer expecting urgent mail or any RM personnel etc.
The DOM usually makes a quick note out which i tape to the door explaining the problem and that anyone wishing to collect their mail from the DO can, providing they have ID with them.
It always amazes me that people can go days without receiving mail and not query as to why when we put so much stuff through their letterboxes!

Re: unable to gain entry
Get your Area Rep to take the matter up with the DSM, as we all know if the local Dom is giving you that kind of instruction and it all goes wrong, then when the investigation comes round, your Dom will deny ever telling you to carry out that instruction.

in our office its always been the case that after getting no access on the third attempt the items would be endorsed inaccessible and sent back to the sender.

Re: unable to gain entry
As far as I'm aware unless there's an 'official' alternative in place, e.g. keep sake, all mail not deliverable for what ever reason, inaccessible, further enquiries etc., should be 'killed off' after three days!
It's your job to follow that instruction, anything over and above this, letters, notes, personal contact etc., is down to the Management.
