Summer Health In Courier

Post by rockypostie »

Got my Courer mag today and in it was the normal crap and also "your wellbeing guide" which is about summer health.
It says reduce your risk of developing skin cancer by trying to avoid being out in direct sunlight at the hottest times of the day - between 11am and 3pm. So i guess we should go back to 5am starts then!!!!

I was given this by one of our chaps today,we live away from the office so we get our Pravda/Courier later, and i went to see the DOM and shoved it under his nose.

Blah Blah Blah...wear plenty of lotion,Blah Blah..sun hat,Blah Blah..fluids.

I told him that i had heat stroke in the long ago past and it is not nice and is an effect of the heat and no suntan lotion will help!!.

He asked what i would suggest and i said go back to 5 a.m. starts and let us out at 7.am again,he told me the company could not afford that and went on about mail volumes dropping ,Balls!! was my rude reply and he threw a wobbly  .

Another happy, hot day in the office

On the other side it says 'avoid excessive physical activity during the hottest part of the day' They really are taking the michael, the way I read it we should not be walking in the sun during the hours of 11am and 3pm. :hmmmm  :arrrghhh

Email sent to HSE today.

Hi, I am a postman for Royal Mail, working through the hottest part of the day, starting outdoor work at 10am and not completing delivery until 2pm. Some of my colleagues dont finish until after 3pm having work over 4 hours in the burning sun. We were given a summer health leaflet that told us not to be out in the sun between 11am and 3pm and to avoid excessive physical activity during the hottest part of the day. Having spoke to my manager about this he just laughed it off. We should be starting earlier during the summer so we begin our outdoor duties at 7am and are finished by 11am. However we are told the company can not afford this. How can Royal Mail not be held accountable for this?? What is it going to take for them to listen? A fatality? Is there not something HSE can do about this?

I think is may be a new Royil mail policy staff of with heat stroke (first stage warning or the sack) or latter one skin cancer of work for treatment (first stage warning or the sack) or the fact that it kills us less staff ot make redundant or pay out its pension too.
