Divide and conquer, they know exactly what they're doing. We need a national ballot

Nothing on the CWU Website, seems strange that they would give Royal Mail 9 days notice when they only have to give 7.
Off today but will find out tomorrow when I go back, hopefully will find out when the results of the London re-ballot are expected as well. :dance

All will be revealed in due course. London reps have announced a programme of strike action which takes us up to August if Royal Mail refuse to agree a new national agreement and resolve the offices where executive action has been taken.

No notice has yet been served to Royal Mail yet but we only have to give them 7 days notice.

With regards to only being London one of the plans is to have a national day of action where all those who have been balloted for strike action all take a day out together. In addition all the other offices in the UK do something on this day either doing the job properly or other intiatives which will be explained in due course.

It is difficult to get a national ballot mate. If the CWU were to hold a national ballot they MUST inform RM of how many staff will be going on strike and from what departments. Unfortunately the CWU do not have this information for every office within the UK and if they tried to inform RM of an impending strike date, RM's lawyers would take the CWU to court for not providing accurate figures. This is why ballots are being held at local level and why it is taking so long to get things rolling. As each office ballots and gets a yes vote then collectively all offices who have ballotted can then go on strike on the same day together. Each rep in each office has to talk to members and point out what is happening further afield than their own patch and make them see that RM are bullying and threatening their way over offices to get the savings that they want. Each rep has then got to hold a ballot for IA so that more and more offices will unite and say enough is enough to RM.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

the way indutrial action, official or otherwise, is building there is no need for a national ballot. In ayrshire RM is crumbling with only one unit taking saturday action over a local issue. If and when all ayrshire join in the service will collapse. A meeting tonight will judge the mood but from my information all 11 units wil request rule 13 ballots. 3 already have.
Members in these units will have asked to be balloted and volunteers are more dependable than conscripts.

Respect to the Ayrshire (KA) brothers and sisters but things appear to be decidely very quite in the (DG) area at least no news eminating with regards to requests for rule 13 ballots.

RM customers target major cities for custom with rural secondary so unfortunately the cities will have to lead the way, coordinated action with MC in neighbouring towns to avoid RM bypassing local action. London taking action is pointless unless Gatwick and other MC refuse to handle diverted mail. Strike action avoidable if we just work to rule, no overtime and just do our jobs to the letter.

There will a London unit reps meeting next tuesday at Friends House . The PEC are meeting on Wednesday so I am sure you can guess what will take place.

Our intention without giving more away is when we take a further strike date around the middle of the month to have a march past Crozier`s Offices down to BERR ( now BIS ) past Whitehall where we are hoping that London Postal Workers and others who can attend make their feelings known to both Royal Mail and the Governement that we will not tolerate them attacking our union and our terms and conditions.

All London postal Branch`s also carried a motion last week that unless the Government instucts Royal Mail to enter into meaniful negotations with the CWU by the middle of the month then we will be holding a consultation with the London membership over whether we fund the labour party. If the London membership vote to stop it then we have a duty to make sure that we make this happen. I wont go into more detail on this as I am sure those in the know will realise how contreversial this will be within the CWU. However Royal Mail`s attacks on us including executive action in over 20 units each of them who have held the line in line with national union policy have all been sanctioned by this Government and we simply have to hit back at them.

With regards to todays statement well again those in the know have expected this for some time even to phoney excuse of cant currently get anyone to invest in Royal Mail despite Royal Mail being the only major European Postal Operator to make a profit. The timing of todays announcement I believe will mean that the Government will hit back by allowing Royal Mail to further attack our terms and conditions .

The number of ballots is growing , the problem is that CWU HQs cant currently cope with the demands. But the battle is heating up but there are still a number of Divisions and Branch`s who seem to still want to hold the coats of us fighting. Hats off to Scotland and South West and South Wales Divisions who have done a great job and the ballots are growing in both of these. Anglia Divison have a few ballots and have said they intend to requests ballots everywhere early
July. However apart from isolated offices elsewhere inclduing a number of units from Kent Invicta all the other Divisons have still a job to do to deliver more ballots.

I liken this to the Alamo those of us who are fighting now inclduing Scotland , London and others are like those fight at the Alamo whilst all the others are like General Houston training an army to fight another day. Hopefully those in the Alamo will be still alive by the time the rest are ready to join us.
