I'm sitting thinking about my first day with R/M. it was a nightmare , and I SHOULD have done a runner, but always a glutton for punishment, nearly 16 years on I'm still here.
I turned up on time, and was told to'wait there' opposite the locker room, in a very narrow corridor, with all and sundry eying me as they went past. Half an hour later, the same Manager asked if i was 'still here''yes' i said, go and wait in the canteen I was told, we have nobody to take you out. Having asked directions to the canteen, after another half hour, someone came through, said quite loudly I hope i get a training allowance for this. It was absoloutely pouring down, when we evenlly got out on the walk, and trying to be helpful offered to carry the bags, which I now know were completely overladen.
Worse still, i had a packet of ciggies in my light summer jacket and they had completely turned to mush by the time I finished!
anybody with a worse first day?

Re: first day.
My 1st day was a bit of a shock, well the cycling bit was. Had 3 days training then left to do it by myself. I had a nice little duty, couple of 100 drops right on the seafront out of town. That was the 80's early 90's. Left in 93 to have a family. I returned in 2003, I was in for a big shock, everything had changed and not for the better as we all know, the biggest surprise to me at the time was working on a RM2000 frame , not having a bike and having to carry everything.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Illegitimi non carborundum

Re: first day.
That sounds like the missus's first day.
She was shown around a round by a colleague then they both went out and did another on overtime, for some reason she stayed, probably to keep an eye on me

Re: first day.
First day was not good really. Turned up early and then stood around for 45 min awaiting for the manager to find the time to talk to me, nice
I was put out on a walk with a young cadet who had his personal stereo on the whole time and did not talk to me other than in grunts. The walk seemed to go on for a bit with me simply carring all the bags and we were the last ones back in the office. On the third day of this i found out we were doing half a walk extra on OT
which of course the crafty little bleeder was pocketing the dough

Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Re: first day.
My first day was great. Me and another got sent home on full pay as they hadn't been expecting us. Two days so called training after that and we were on our own. I got put on different walks most days for my first year.
