Re: london strikes
yeah that's right - we are so damn militant we strike at the drop of a hat. As if. We are striking to protect our terms and conditions and to make sure that we,as the workforce, have a say in our future via our union. My office has been threatened with executive action and they propose to implement this at the end of next week. so far hardly anyone has signed for the new duties so they will be allocated by management. we live in "interesting times". I've done over 30 years and fully expect to find myself on the reserve list. I will keep you posted. oh yeah and if you've got a 2 hour delivery going spare- I'll have itpostiered wrote:and the only reason they are on strike because they want to be more militant than bob crowe at rmt and they want to start a national strike

We are all fighting to stop RM breaking every agreement which protects our conditions and future.
EA has been implimented in my office Dundee East, it is totally unworkable unless you break every rule in the book:
Come in early; take cars; do not take your meal relief; run around the WALK!
Keep Fighting and don't let them grind you down.

Your 1st post asked a question, then you answered said question in your 2nd and 3rd post
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: london strikes
Royal Mail tactic is to isolate those offices including London who are currently fighting for a national agreement on the future. By isolating us they can flood managers into the areas fighting and attack us more.
So one of the tactics Royal Mail deploy is to say London is less effecient then elsewhere and that these changes have already been made elsewhere in the UK. In other words London are just lazy.
However the key to this is the measurement they use for producitivity. They use items per gross working hour. Of course London is going to be more expensisve cause the cost of an hour is higher in London due to London Weighting , the higher costs of biuldings , congestion charges and whole range of other costs. So Royal Mail are not measuring in a fair and reasonable manner. Walks in London are on average 3.5 hours. This was agreed in 2003 and signed of in a strict audit process in order to get the £26.28 pay increase. This audit process was signed off by Royal Mail. Since 2003 there have been further revisions so most walks now have more delivery points, plus the amount of new delivery points which have come on line.
In any case the Daily Mail articles confirms what we already knew about Royal Mail`s traffic recording , quality measures and effeciency. Even the Hooper report suggusted that Royal Mail`s transapercy in these measures was unacceptable and that off com would have more rights to review their accounts and measurement systems.
Our believe is that the Scotland invesitgation is just the tip of the ice berg . A very senior Royal Mail manager who retired last year orginally from Scotland came to London to do a quality review about 7 years ago when London were failing all post comms targets and reccommended the same pratices which are now being investgated.
Going back to the issue , London have been balloted and have taken strike action on the issue of defending national agreements and in pursance of a national agreement for all in the UK which includes the following no complusory redundancies clause , protection of full time jobs , a shorter working week , making Royal Mail pay for increased productivity , improvements in MTSF , a new long term delivery agreement which includes agreements on geo route , the delivery span , saturdays , door to door , car derived vans, full time jobs , indoor workload, walk sequencing and the effects from Network 09.
A new Mail centre agreement which understands Royal Mails final mail centre plan. There have been lots of talks of a 33 mail centre network plan, Currntly there are 60 odd ) We cannot go with the current ploicy of attempting to defend mail centres on an indivudual basis as it does not work and the mail centre closes. What happens with 2nd class , Flat machines , one outward sort , the impact of Network 2009.
Plus we are Looking for a National Agreement on the future of Network and RDCs . It is essesntial we get an agreement on Network 2009 as it will have a major impact on all functions. Moreover the impact of one outward sort in mail centres will reduce network runs. In terms of RDCs it is important that we influence the review of RDCs which Royal Mail intend to do.
In addtion London amongst others in Scotland have held the National Union polices of no savings and have had a number of offices where they have taken executive action or have given notice of executive action these include SW1,SW3, SW7,SW13,Sw14,SW20,EC, W1, WC1&2,N1,NW1,NW2,NW10,W4,W6,W7,W11,W13,SE10hub,E3,E13,
So this is a national fight being fought at the moment by Scotland , London and about an hundred others. This number is increasing everyday which is good but not fast enough in my view.
I know there are divisions and branch`s doing a lot of work but I also know there are some who simply are not doing enough for whatever reason.
With regards to London we have agreed a programmes of action for next month which will put more pressure on Royal Mail. In addtion one of the dates is aimed to be a national strike day where all the ballots which are live around the country are actioned on the same day. In addtion where you have yet to have a ballot whole offices will be asked to start working safely.
So dont listen to Royal Mail lies this dispute will decide whehter you have a future in this industry. Royal Mail and the CWU are playing for high stakes . Royal Mail want to lower costs by cutting full time jobs and part time jobs as well , make you work harder for less and running down the job in order to sell us off.
The CWU wants an agreement which protects your futures recognising there will be change but that change must mean that those who want to leave the industry do so on voluntary means and those who want to stay have good terms and conditions and a full time job if they choose to.
Its time you choose which side you are on.

Re: london strikes
Doesn't the fact that every time a D.o MC goes on strike they can flood an area with managers, mean RM has way to many surplus managers, after all if their own office can cope without them while they are off strike breaking, it can also cope without them the rest of the time.
