Why do I feel continually stressed and depressed ? I can't seem to switch off after work, continually moaning about work , have aches and pains and generally hate going to work now on a daily basis.One time years ago i luved this job early finish rest of day free for leisure etc. Now I come in and i'm physically knackered and feel i can't take any more of this but don't know what to do.

ATOS wont do anything unless you're off sick and then the only thing they want is to get you back to work as quickly as possible. Best advice is to go to your GP and start from there.drb wrote:See your line manager or rep immediately and get a referral for Atos

I've been there myself and if I could give you one bit of advice, it would be to try and focus on the more important things in life like family, friends, hobbies etc.
Hope this helps:

Re: Stressed and depressed
I ve been through something like this about a year after my divorce. Although i ve always liked working outside on my own i found that walking around i would dwell on things too much. I am not sure taking time off really helps much. My best advice would be to try something new like a hobbie, need not be expensive, posible something you enjoyed in childhood. By doing so you will have something to get interested in and think about.markis wrote:Why do I feel continually stressed and depressed ? Sadly the job being much the same day in day out can grind you down if your not feeling at your best. Not much you can do with that at the moment with the job market. Maybe think about an evening course to retrain or develop new skills. Lastly try to talk to someone in your family and let them know how your feeling.
Anyway hang on in there with the rest of us and dont forget to come on here an bitch about stuff

Re: Stressed and depressed
I dunno if it helps, I used to drive lorries in the afternoon and get stuck on the motorways and finish at about 7pm, I got fed up of it, since going back on the walk, I found it relaxing, no Responsibilities, no Tachos, no getting stuck on Motorways, sure there is a lot of Bullshit going on, everywhere has it, at least I get to finish at my official time most days, I just blank out the sh1t element and just think about the money, I have a life outside of work, friends, hobbies things I enjoy doing, so its a matter of perspective.
My job is just a means to an end, thats it, when I finish, its out of my mind, I don't think about work for one second, its another chapter closed end of, my real life starts when I clock off.
There are worse jobs and poorly paid at that too, at least you are not bossing in RM, now that is a really sh1t job

Re: Stressed and depressed
Cheers guys for replies. I want to change jobs but the job market is hopeless at moment.It's like when I applied for this job no one wanted it because of early starts, dogs,working saturdays etc. retraining is fine if its for a few months, but I don't want to wait years to get get qualified in something .Okay maybe i'm being negative but that's how i feel. I am looking though and it seems you have 400 applying for one job vacancy with the recession which don't make it easy.At the end of the day it's only a job and your health comes first so if things don't get better I'll go on the sick .http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =1&t=17037#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Everyone thinks that and mostly them who have not even tried the job but my friend you would not believe how much physical stress can be put on you by oppressive management. If you have not yet found this fact out then consider yourself very lucky.

Your right and its true that the job market is pretty hopeless at present with so many people without a job who will work in anything for a lot less than RM pays. It is only a job at the end of the day and yes its true that it comes with the "postie" title but hey we get paid to wear the uniform
Take a few days sick if you need to recharge but try not to look at it long term as it can become a slippy slope and RM are not good with sickness.

Re: Stressed and depressed
At the end of the day it is just a job something you do to earn money we all have to earn money but if someone is exerting pressure for their own gain and forcing bullying or coercing an employee and making their life miserable IT IS WRONG!. But it maybe an underlying issue we can all get down from time to time but sometimes mental illness can be a problem as much as one in ten at anyone time can be affected it maybe the result of a relationship break up or financial problems but work can exacerbate these problems!. This is not aimed at the original poster but for all.
