Royal Mail Chairman, also Chairman of TNS?!?!?

Post by andy2007 »

I know I may have been somewhat slow to notice this: But did everyone realise, that Donald Brydon, is also the Chairman of TNS. The Company which does the Have Your Say surveys, to guage how RM are seen by their Staff?!?!? :nervous

Is it just me. Or does everyone else, see this as a severe conflict of interests? :hmmmm :arrrghhh
So much for independant surveys, eh?

Hmm.... he sounds like another :lfo in the making. I wonder how many other
boards he sits on? As far as I've heard he is a privatization specialist and that
is what he has joined RM to do...

As an outsider, ( ex CWU) so please forgive my opinions, from reading these forums,I think your leadership is totally out of touch with the rank and file membership and also the membership is a different breed in the major cities compared to the more minor towns and rural areas. it seems you are all employed to do the same job but different rules and working practices are applied wherever you might work. What ever happened to national agreements and why did the CWU leadership let this slip at the whim and mercy of local managers? :confused

afraid I saw this coming a mile off , been on strike over fragmentization & machinery of negotiation prior to privatization elsewhere , apparently we were stuck in the 50's :Very Happy , just one weak / bent / incompetent rep and things get taken back to the 1850's .

At one time the paid union area organizer was a last resort thing if say , someone had been caught fiddling , that soon changed , I can see why there is so many aggressive , confrontational and provocative managers all the way up the RM food chain .

Kindest thing you can say about this 2007 uneasy compromise was that the union were clutching at straws . Ward didn't look too chuffed trying to sell the agreement on the video .

Millidge wants more local agreements and localized bonus based contracts . It's all quite deliberate

Another fine example of our beloved union not having a clue.

We are finished!

As far as I know. This is a full list of the Companies he Chairman of:
Royal Mail
TNS
Smiths Engineering Group

So it doesn't look like he's as bad as his predecessor, for having his finger in too many pies. Although, he still isn't in a position to give any of the Companies his undivided attention.

It's the fact that I stumbled on the fact that one of the Companies he chairs. Handles the supposedly independant Have Your Say surveys. It's the conflict of interests, which worries me, more than the number of COmpanies he thinks he can run at once.

Royal Mail Wants Former TNS Chair for Top Job

January 23 2009

The UK’s Royal Mail has named former TNS Chairman Donald Brydon as first choice to lead it through a forthcoming part-privatisation. If appointed, he would replace current Chairman Allan Leighton when he steps down in March.

It is understood that Royal Mail is waiting to get the thumbs up from Business Secretary Lord Mandelson for the approach to Brydon, who chaired Taylor Nelson Sofres until it was taken over by marcoms giant WPP last year.

If Brydon does replace Leighton, he is expected to lead the group through the sale of a minority stake to Dutch group TNT or DHL: however, he is said to be in talks with several companies about different posts, and is not certain to want the Royal Mail role.

Brydon took his job with TNS after a 20-year career at Barclays' investment division. He also chairs the Smiths engineering group and the London Metal Exchange, and was a director at the Allied Domecq drinks group and Scottish Power before they were taken over. He graduated in mathematical science from the University of Edinburgh in 1967.

good question white ive been asking myself the same question over the years i suppose every office is different how else can you explain it may be its a quest for divide and conquer united they stand divided they fall thats the only way R/M thinks they can break the union
it's what Millidge wants , quite deliberate - " preparing for privatization " - also these senior managers are looking for a exit strategy before they jump before they are pushed .

Don't say anything, nothing more powerful than zero feedback.
You've lost our confidence ,there is no trust or respect, dialogue has stopped. Which all adds up to a big fat failure of management.
Course you should reply if you believe your response will be taken seriously, accurately reported and acted upon :chuckle
