Can I take sick leave?

Post by emmaa_uk »

I have heard from another postwoman who like me, is just new into the company, that we are not allowed to take sick leave because they already have 5 ppl at our office doing overtime and last week she sprained her ankle and was advised to just carry on!!!
I think i am coming down with yet another virus as may catch it from my dad who already has it, what if i decide i am not well enough to come into work?
can they fire me over it? i am permanent but on a 3 month trial apparently even though my contract says it is 6!
I havent had a day off yet either, any suggestions?

Also i caught the ex union rep with his feet up asleep when i returned from my delivery!!! i told him he was sleeping on the job! lol

1) If your contract says six months then it IS six months, as are most trial periods within royal fail. Forget what anyone tells you and go with your contract.

2) YES YOU CAN TAKE SICK LEAVE! For trialists it is different to confirmed staff but you should be able to go off sick twice, (not covering more than around seven days in six months) WITHOUT any repercussions whatsoever. Then you'll get 'staged'. Sick leave will be unpaid though.

Once you are on a 'stage warning' you'll not be able to get past trial status until you clear the procedure.

Yes, take your days off, what are your hours?

interesting, my hours are 22.5 hours a week, seems like are making these things seem like our problem when really it is THEIR problem!

They are trying to harass you and scare you with this trial crap. I have been told I am still on trial because my contracted hours changed. I have been with the company two years!

I rang up HR services (back of your payslip) and they confirmed I passed my trial over a year ago. Never believe any manager, if you are unsure post on here or ring up HR services!

Also ask for your holiday entitlement!

Good luck!
