Any Company that cannot pay you, may not be able to pay defered wages in the near future and could go under, the Ex Employees are usually last in the lines of Creditors as many have discovered to their own cost.

I would refuse to work for nothing, if the company starts get shaky thats probably the best time to leave, I would take VR and look for another job.

at this moment in time, Royal Mail as a Govt owned shareholder and is currently solvent, it would have to be bailed out by the Government if it gets into financial difficulties, which means the tax payer could be picking up the bill, the last thing the Govt would want is another 180,000 on the dole and 180,000 less taxes to pay for it.

unfortunately there are an awful lot of posties who already give their time quite willingly to royal mail by starting early.its got to a situation where a chap who is on indoor duties and fighting for his job as they are wanting to medically retire him has to fight off people who help themselves to sequenced mail ajob which is critical to his argument.

but on the broader picture i would never give royal mail more than my alloted hours they treat people with disdain so they should expect it back.

I work for 40 hours a week and I expect to get paid for those 40 hours, if any company gets itself into a situation which it asks for people to work for free then it's been badly run for a long period of time and therefore it starts at the top and works its way down until (at the very last) the foot soldiers.

I'd only do it if they defered the one month plus added 10% compound interest per month until it was paid in full.

No way would I work for nothing, I have seen posties ask for reduction in hours, career breaks , etc and some have been turned down. The way RM treats its workers I don't think many posties would work for free, especailly when RM profits have risen and we have had a pay freeze for no reason what so ever.
