Rep going to Bournemouth

Got a few questions

Our Rep has been going on about his jolly to Bournemouth and his £300 quid spending money for a while now, Our rep is so far up the Doms ass its shamefulk, now the rep is going to get voted out at the next election in a few months but my questions are this

1 Must the DOM allow the rep time off to attend or is it only if operationally possible

and

2 If he has been given time off to attend can we justifiably say no to absorbing his duty(other than the i wont have time at the end of my own duty reason)

if the guy was looking out for his members we wouldnt be bothered but he isnt and recently has put in lots of petty complaints about several members who he did not like

His release time should be fully covered because its paid for by the CWU, it must not be absorb.

his level as a CWU Rep i.e Local or Area Rep will depend on whether or not CWU or RM pay.

RM cannot reasonably withold release.

Best thing to do is challenge the reps role at conference with your branch and obviously step up at the next set of elections

ok just to clarify some points, i work in a smallish DO 17 Members of staff, we have 2 leave reserves who are coving annual leave that week, no one is willing to work day off/overtime to cover for his release what i am trying to find out is as operationally at local level there is no cover, can we be forced to attempt to absorb his duty, not really worried who is paying what as it is irrelevant to us. so if we do all refuse what happens then?

Sack him. get a vote of no confidence in him and forward it to your branch now saying you dont want to pay for the w****r to missrepresent you and you want a new election for a good rep.

I have no problem with trying to absorb any duty, but you must be able work your time or overtime must be paid!

At our place this is what would happen

A reserve would cover it
If no reserve covered it then it would be put out amongst the office on docket
If no one picked it up on docket then a casual would be bought in to cover it

No way would anyone absorb it,Tell him to go and do it

If Rep paid for by CWU and the duty is absorbed then that is fraud by RM they are taking the money for the duty so it should be covered NOT absorbed. But they will try every trick in the book to get duties absorbed, I just wish members would stop rushing around to accomodate them, it is going to end in tragedy soon the way some are tearing around..............and for what!!!!!
