Getting sent to mail centre

Right, ive been unofficially told that Im going to be sent to our local MC (50 mile round trip, local??) to continue my light duties as Im waiting for surgery at the end of july. Already had one successful surgery in february.

Can someone tell me what the procedure is for this. Am I right to think that they have to get me there and back DURING my duty time? Can they make me work outside of my normal hours? Should I get everything in black and white from the DIM?

Seems pretty pointless and i think Im just being made an example of to be honest.

Been on light duties since september,completely indoor work until 2 weeks ago. Im now going out to do 45 mins to 1 hour delivery every day, and they decide now is a good time to send me to the MC.

As we are lapsing duties every day in our office, the hour I would have delivered will now have to be covered by 3 or 4 other people.

Thats awful!! As far as I know you turn up at your usual place of work and its up to them to get you there and back all within your time. And you must remember that while you are on re-hab/Light duties its part of R M agreement that no overtime will be granted, so that will be in your favour anyhow! So all in all it should mean less work for you as you travel your 50 mile round trip per day!!

I would talk to your rep. If you pick up your little girl they have to consider this under family friendly.. Most likely they will tell you to give your daughter the key!!! Crazy!

Shes only 4, so she cant reach the lock yet anyway.

Dont think i can use the family friendly argument, as if I was on my normal duty I wouldnt be able to pick her up as she finishes at 11.45, and I finish at 14.00

I can only pick her up at the moment as i start and finish earlier while on light duties.

Your manager is trying it on.

The line manager may seek advice and guidance from personnel at any stage of the rehabilitation process. This may include advice on whether the potential benefits of the proposed programme (reduced absence, useful work undertaken and earlier return to normal duties) are realistic and practicable in the circumstances.The line manager in the first instance will seek to find alternative work in his/her own office and will discuss operational implications with the local union representative. When the line manager is unable to facilitate suitable rehabilitation arrangements in his/her local office he/she will liaise with the SOM, MCM, the CWU Area Rehab representative and the CMA as appropriate to identify suitable work in an acceptable location within that area.

If suitable work is not available then consideration should be given to the creation of special duties where practicable.
3. If the employee is placed on a rehabilitation programme in a different office the employee should be reimbursed for any excess travel costs in line with business travel policy. Where an employee is placed on a rehabilitation programme at a different office and resumes to full time hours, any additional travel time incurred in excess of 30 minutes per day should be discounted from the full time duty hours rather than claimed as single rate overtime. ( Travelling time of less than 30 minutes per day is disregarded).
4. Reasons given may include both medical and social [ e.g. domestic situation ] where further EHS input on occupational health and/or welfare issues should be sought as appropriate. The advice provided by EHS may relate to capability which may require a revision of the rehabilitation programme, and /or social factors for which adjustments might reasonably be made. It may also include fitness for a possible early return to normal work, or recommendations concerning the need for a permanent job change. EHS will seek further advice and clarification from the employee's GP or specialist as necessary throughout the process and take full account of any reports received from them before making their recommendation.

As a P'S' If you say had spinal or hip or knee surgery---you may be able to be excused sitting and travelling for prolonged periods--check this out too--

one other thing, if I am being moved to the MC, but two other people on rehab are not, would you say I have a case for discrimination, especially considering I am able to do part delivery but they are indoors only??

probably not, its a condition caused by excessive walking, compact compartment syndrome (a form of shin splints).

If you are on light duties are you not working reduced hours,
and if you are what is the point of moving you as your time will be spent as a passenger,
what a waste of time and money.
How much notice do they have to give you before moving you.
Fight them all the way.

But if you do go and drive yourself remember to claim fuel expense 40p a mile that's £20 a day not bad and your getting paid, play them at their own game it'll cost them to send you.
