Retirement age

A friend of mine is due for retirement this September but would like to be retained in service his managers have turned him down although another employee has been kept on due to his skills (cough splutter) does anybody know of anybody who has worked beyond 65?? rsvp asap cheers Will.

Nobody over 65 working in my office and those who can are taking their pensions now and getting out while they can, sorry I can't be of more help.

I would retire now and travel a bit, then do some part time work to keep active even if its Tescos or similar to keep my brain cells going and a bit of extra pocket money, I couldn't stand sitting in my house all day.

I always work to live not live to work, I have done this from day one of my working life

It gets beyond a joke when you're in your second century

There was a move to entertain service beyond 65 and someone in the north west region applied and was granted an extension - it was at the time when the retirement age was being mooted to be extended to 68 and was PC - now of course is a different kettle of fish - I wouldn't think anyone would be kept on a contract after 65 BUT that is not to say that RM wouldn't try to utilise the experience of old postmen for specific roles on a casual basis.

But yet by the time I get to retire at 67 (in 25 years time), the retirement age will rise again to 68 a year or so after.

The government wants to raise the retirement age because we inconsiderate ba****** are living too damm long, don't we know our place! Oh for the good old days when the working classes dropped dead in their mid thirties, then they could dock our pay as well.
At the same time as this is happening RM are taking the opposite view, you can't work past 65, get you out on your ear, you full time union member, replace you with a 20 year old part timer on a 1 hour contract, well you know the rest.

I can see it all now - Dick Van Dyke, and a processioon of little urchins singing chim chimeney chim chimeney chim chim cheroo - personally I'd set fire to their ars*s and whang them up the chimney for good. Well no - on second thoughts who would keep me in pension for the rest of my days - here's the itinerary 0600 treading clay and hay making bricks til 0800, then a bowl of gruel with a very mouldy dry crust and don't even let them think of asking for more, 0810 til lunchtime....................what am I talking about they wouldn't be getting lunch you have to tighten the belt, well their belt and I'm not talking leather here - twine is perfectly adequate for holding up the hessian keks...................... do you know I think I missed my calling I could have made a brilliant work house manager

I'll just use my experience from my previous job of slave driver to get a position at the top
