is Royal Mail going to hell in a handcart ?
Reading some of the comments, I am getting the impression the Lunatics is taking over the Asylum, what with stories of inhumans DOMs, Linos, HQ directives that is out of touch with the ground, getting people on part time work, ideas of cutting jobs BEFORE automation has even come in as in London, unrealistic targets, pressure to use your own private cars in some areas.
If it wasn't Royal Mail, it would sound like a shady del boy outfit run by wide boys wiht no concept of the real world, if it was any private company it would be bankrupt and investigated for several H&S breaches and illegal non payment of wages, overtime and D2Ds etc in some cases.
while there is a lot of good Managers and linos, they are out numbered by the bad ones.
Am I being over dramatic ?

No, it's sounds about right to me
Maybe if they hired decent managers that are prepared to stand up to their boss then thing wouldn't be so bad and allowed the managers to actually manage instead of following directions to the letter for fear of getting the sack.

Most businesses have rejected that top down style , it's just a corporate version of the 70's PO command & control style , the worst of both worlds , instuitionalized stupidity , pettiness & spite etcdisgruntledpostie1 wrote:No, it's sounds about right to me![]()

No your not being over dramatic, one of these days RM are going to get a wake-up call because it cannot carry-on running the business with such managers. RM management style has been a problem since the Lord Sawyer Report and has been mentioned again in the Hooper Report and nothing ever seems to get done about inexperienced managers, carry-on like this and RM will run itself into the ground.NWpostie wrote:Reading some of the comments, I am getting the impression the Lunatics is taking over the Asylum, what with stories of inhumans DOMs, Linos, HQ directives that is out of touch with the ground, getting people on part time work, ideas of cutting jobs BEFORE automation has even come in as in London, unrealistic targets, pressure to use your own private cars in some areas.

Try to get someone to stand against him/her.
I know that it's a suggestion that gets thrown around a lot. But hard as it can sometimes be to find people willing to stand: A good Rep, is worth his/her weight in gold. Particularly now things are so bad. Hopefully, there will be someone willing to put the time and effort in.

Re: is Royal Mail going to hell in a handcart ?
I believe the PO prior to 1986 , had " the manual " as to how everything was done - the " manual " filled a bookcase , a lot of posties think :lfo & :cfo took RM backwards , Walmart / ASDA is very well known for it's regimented style , problem is that RM is a bit more complicated than a supermarket and Holland is a bit ? different to the UK .bedfordrl wrote:That is possibly the best summing up of Royal Mail i have seen.norbert wrote:Most businesses have rejected that top down style , it's just a corporate version of the 70's PO command & control style , the worst of both worlds , institutionalized stupidity , pettiness & spite etcdisgruntledpostie1 wrote:No, it's sounds about right to me![]()

You're also dealing with sales people and a sales culture , those sort of people do whatever it takes to get a deal , hence the trust issue as most people have been around too long .

Re: is Royal Mail going to hell in a handcart ?
the problem with management is that few from top till bottom have actually done the job, they know all about computers and budgets but no experience about working on the streets or in mail centres.
the biggest problems just now for instance is that the tool called pegases is a complete failure but will they admit it no they will just carry on making a complete arse of everything because they wont admit when they are wrong.
