I'll keep it brief, heard today in our office that a long timer has been sacked because he took his car out for delivery and use as a mobile pouch box, that he got away with, but what he didnt get away with was parking on a metered road without paying to park, his car was towed away, complete with over half a walks worth of mail in the boot
Imagine having to call your dom to say you cant complete because your car has been towed away with the mail in it

Serves him right in my opinion, as we always say, do it properly and these things wont happen!

It should serve as a warning that Royal Mail turns a blind eye from breachers of security as long as the wind is blowing in their favour.

Think that is more than a bit harsh! sounds awful close to vindictive.

I used to use my car years ago, the reason i used it, was because i was about the only person in my office not starting early and taking my full M/R. by the time i was ready to go, my accelarator had long since left and although i could get out there was no chance of getting a lift back to the office to pick my car up! which leaves either walking or getting a bus which people who didn't own cars did have to do, sometimes walking 4 or 5 miles after a full delivery.

I'm not saying that staff should use there cars but, accelarators are the main problem if they didn't just ditch other staff members (and part of there duty) it wouldn't be such a problem!

As for me .... YES we all know I use my car ........... NEVER as a pouch drop .......... ONLY to start my shift early .

I never said I found it funny, I merely stated the truth, the fact that it serves him right, were not aloud to use cars full stop, he's paid the price for braking the rules, nuff said!

I think the shame is on you calpsy no one finds it funny that this person has lost there job and i dont think any1 on this site ever would unless it was a theft case but the point were are trying to make is that if he hadnt used his car to rush around his beat if he had used a drop point and let a driver take them for him instead of using his car as a drop point he wouldnt be in this mess THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DONT DO THE JOB PROPERLY so lets not be saying shame on you to people as nobody is laffing if you interpret them as finding it funny thats your problem so deal with it and lets not post stupid comments but calpsy heed the warning and realise what can happen by not doing the job properly but then again as you said in a previous post you do not need the job ????????????????????

Ok everyone. This is already starting to get out of hand. We all know that he shouldn't have been using his own car, and that he wouldn't have lost his job if he'd refused to do so. But to say that it serves him right, is at best harsh. And at worst vindictive.

HOWEVER. If that's what you genuinely think, then you are as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. So there's no need for anyone to start getting nasty, or personal, about it.

Now can we PLEASE discuss this rationally. Without encouraging the people with particularly strong views to state them again. Haven't we had enough harm done already, by people winding each other up, instead of actually discussing the situations?

if a rm van with was parked with half a walks mail and some joyrider or whoever nips in and drives off, what is the crime? technically, it's taking a vehicle without consent to start with. a charge of taking mail would be added, even if the mail has not been tampered with, removed, touched in any way (other charges of having no insurance or anything else is supplementary).

why is it the vehicle removal firm has not been charged with taking mail. the purpose of using the original vehicle was acting as an rm delivery vehicle

I was going to stay out of this thread as i could see where it was all heading AGAIN, but i will give it a go.

I must admit i thought it was very harsh to sack him just because his car was towed. I am as guilty as hell of parking my van two wheels up the pavement all around my delivery but if it got towed i would expect a warning but NOT the old tin tack.

the use of cars have been discussed in other threads before. My reply above was not mentioning the pros or cons of a car.. What i was asking why he had been sacked? From the morality point of view Was it really worth dismissal with mitigating circumstances? Secondly, the other question was could the removal company be charged with interferring with mail?
