Geraldine Smith MP

Post by Sandyman »

Ex CWU rep and MP for Morecambe Ms. Smith has done a grand job supporting the campaign against Royal Mail privatisation in Parliament.

However, she was on North West TV news on Monday and Radio 5 yesterday supporting Gordon Brown remaining as leader of the Labour Party, despite his view that Royal Mail should be privatised?

Is this career motivated political expediency or has she been done a deal whereby she supports the PM in exchange for RM privatisation being taken off the agenda?

Cynical I know, but been in RM too long to be any other way

She was on SKy News or BBC earlier in the week doing the same thing. I was a little disappointed to say the least.

Personally I think she realises that Labour are heading for oblivion and that keeping GB in charge is postponing that oblivion until the next general election. If GB went, through a leadership challenge then the public would be even more annoyed if someone was put in charge yet again without us having a say. I think she is trying keep the tories out until next summer as would all labour mp's

The real ( not on message) is that they know they are heading for oblivion, however turkeys do not vote for xmas, and yes Mr Taxpayer we really do appreciate getting our noses in the trough for another 12 months.

Just because any given Labour MP is anti RML sell off, does not mean they are anti everything GB does.

It's nothing more than political survival which is far more important to an individual than other people's jobs.

Of course not, but lets look to the future and see if we can envision when the next Labour Government will take office - I would imagine that the wanderings in the wilderness by Moses and his gang will pale into insignificance, don't you?

Old GB is clutching at straws looking to revitalise politics, inject honesty and proportional representation - I bit like the guy sat in the electric chair when someone says "is there anything you'd like to say", - a little late in the day - still it'll give labour activists something to do for the next forty years. :Very Happy

Geraldine is a CWU supported MP and as such has fought tooth and nail for anything that is of importance to our union. She was for many years an exceptionally well respected rep for the North Lancs and Cumbria branch and will have on numerous occasions met Alan Johnson, maybe it is this knowledge which makes her feel GB is the better alternative.
Many years ago I met and spoke with Alan Johnson and came away with the urge to check my watch was still on my wrist and my wallet still in my pocket.
