Saturdays off

Sorry if this has been mentioned elseware, but has anyone seen the latest copy of the "voice". Top union chap states that hardly anyone wants a monday to friday working week with every saturday off. The mans obviously from a home for the terminaly stupid or he must have an underlying agenda. Iv'e yet to meet any postie that wants to work saturday given the choice. If this is the sort of twat supposed to be working for our best interest then were doomed.

we have 5 duties that work mon to friday with the cover being done by saturday staff on 7 hour contracts,
have been trying for a year now...the rest of the office work with a rolling day off

I don't read either the Voice or the Courier so I can't say anything about the writers but I'd love to have every Saturday off (or come to think, any Saturday off).

One problem comrades saturday delivery will be enshrined in law once the PSB is passed by parliment.

RM have to do saturdays at the moment as its part of their licence.

The decsion is not Royal Mails or the CWU.

This is always bought up when not working saturdays is mentioned. Doesnt mean anyone will lose their jobs. It could be used to get rid of everyone after EVR. Would guess that is more than 1 in 6 in most offices. Out of a delivery that has around 50 firms on a saturday i deliver to 5. 99% of specials are left till monday. Seems daft driving past all the ones that are shut to deliver to the small amount that are open.

If Bob Gibson wants to stick his head in the sand and pretend only 'a small number of members' want a Saturday off then thats his problem.
The Hooper Report dealt a blow to Saturday off though saying that overwhelmingly customers want mail on a Saturday. (where? I dont know anyone that cares!)
Yes, the floater issue isnt easy but as the poster above states -if automation is going to cost 20,000 jobs anyway we can surely give the ones that are left the'family friendly' attendances they keep going on about.

I think you're confusing customers with the people we deliver to, the customers are the big posters (all that advertising crap) who like people to see the mail whenever they're off work.

What a golden opportunity to end the Saturday slog.

We go down to a 35 hour week, some take EVR, some take buy down, hours over 35 are paid at overtime rates and Saturday collections, callers and any other ancilliary duties would become SA enhanced.
